The Shure BLX1288/MX153-H11 is a dual-channel analog wireless microphone system built for presentations, performances, worship services, and event sound. It pairs a handheld BLX2 transmitter with an integrated SM58 vocal capsule and a BLX1 bodypack with an MX153 earset microphone. The included BLX88 receiver lets both channels operate together from one compact tabletop receiver.
This configuration suits users who need one handheld microphone and one hands-free microphone in the same setup. The SM58-equipped handheld is appropriate for singers, hosts, and speakers, while the MX153 earset keeps the microphone positioned near the presenter's mouth. Its H11 operating band covers 572 to 596 MHz, so frequency authorization should be checked for the intended location before use.
The system's wireless audio response is rated at 50 Hz to 15 kHz, with 0.5% typical total harmonic distortion and 100 dB typical A-weighted dynamic range. The SM58 capsule uses a cardioid pickup pattern intended to focus on the person using the handheld microphone. The MX153 is an omnidirectional electret condenser earset designed for close, consistent speech pickup.
The BLX88 receiver uses microprocessor-controlled internal antenna diversity and QuickScan frequency selection to support setup in changing RF environments. Separate group and channel controls allow each transmitter to be matched to its receiver channel. The receiver provides both balanced XLR microphone outputs and 1/4-inch instrument-level outputs for connection to a mixer, amplifier, or PA system.
For larger microphone requirements, the BLX platform can support up to 12 systems operating simultaneously when the frequency band and local RF environment permit it. Each transmitter runs on two AA alkaline batteries for up to 14 hours of stated battery life. This package provides a practical starting point for a two-person wireless setup and can be used alongside additional compatible BLX systems in the same band when coordinated correctly.
Key Features
- Dual-Channel BLX88 Receiver: Operates the included handheld and bodypack transmitters from one receiver.
- H11 UHF Band: Uses the 572 to 596 MHz frequency range.
- SM58 Handheld: Cardioid dynamic vocal capsule helps focus pickup on the performer.
- MX153 Earset: Omnidirectional earset supports hands-free speaking and presentation use.
- QuickScan Setup: Receiver scanning helps locate an available group and channel.
- Up To 14-Hour Runtime: Each transmitter uses two AA alkaline batteries.
Design & Installation
The BLX88 receiver, BLX1 bodypack, and BLX2 handheld transmitter use molded ABS housings. The handheld combines the BLX2 wireless transmitter with an integrated SM58 capsule, while the MX153 is a lightweight electret-condenser earset. The receiver includes status LEDs for normal audio and overload indication, plus separate controls for its two channels.
Place the BLX88 near the mixer or powered PA and connect each receiver channel through its XLR or 1/4-inch output. Connect the MX153 to the BLX1's four-pin TA4/TQG input, install two AA batteries in each transmitter, then match each transmitter's group and channel to the receiver. Keep transmitters within line of sight where possible, complete the receiver scan before use, and confirm that H11-band operation is authorized at the venue.

Can the handheld and earset be used at the same time?
Yes. The included BLX88 is a dual-channel receiver designed to operate the BLX2/SM58 handheld transmitter and BLX1 bodypack transmitter together. Each transmitter must be set to match its assigned receiver channel.
What equipment is needed to hear the microphones?
The package includes the wireless system, but it needs to connect to a mixer, amplifier, or powered PA speaker system. The BLX88 provides separate XLR and 1/4-inch audio outputs for each channel.
Will the MX153 earset connect directly to the BLX1 bodypack?
Yes. The MX153 included with this system is intended for use with the BLX1 bodypack transmitter. The BLX1 uses a four-pin TA4/TQG microphone input.
How long do the transmitters run on batteries?
The BLX1 and BLX2 each use two 1.5 V AA alkaline batteries. Shure rates battery life at up to 14 hours, with actual runtime depending on battery type and manufacturer.
Is the H11 frequency band legal everywhere?
No. This version operates from 572 to 596 MHz, and wireless microphone frequency authorization varies by country and region. Check local spectrum rules and venue RF conditions before purchasing or operating it.
What is included with this system?
The package includes a BLX88 dual receiver, BLX2/SM58 handheld transmitter, BLX1 bodypack transmitter, MX153 earset microphone, power supply, microphone clip, belt clip, four AA batteries, and user guide. Included windscreen and clip accessories are also supplied for the earset configuration.
