Mogami GOLD STUDIO-100 100 ft XLR Microphone Cable $274.95
Bundle total: $1,283.95

The Shure BLX1288/MX153-J11 is a dual-channel wireless microphone system built for presentations, vocal performance, worship services, classrooms, and event sound. It combines a handheld transmitter with an SM58 vocal capsule and a bodypack transmitter with an MX153 earset microphone. The included BLX88 receiver lets two performers or presenters work wirelessly through one compact receiver.

This system is suited to situations that need both a traditional handheld microphone and a hands-free speech option. The SM58-equipped handheld supports close vocal pickup, while the lightweight MX153 earset places the microphone near the speaker's mouth for consistent voice level during movement. The dual-channel format helps reduce the equipment required for two-mic setups.

The BLX platform uses analog UHF wireless transmission and offers up to 300 feet of line-of-sight operating range under suitable RF conditions. Its J11 version operates from 596 to 616 MHz, so local spectrum authorization and available RF conditions should be confirmed before use. One-touch QuickScan helps locate an open group and channel during setup.

The BLX88 receiver uses microprocessor-controlled internal antenna diversity to support stable wireless reception. Separate XLR and 1/4-inch outputs allow connection to a mixer, powered speaker, amplifier, or installed sound system. Receiver audio LEDs show normal level in green and overload indication in red for straightforward gain checks.

Both included transmitters run on two AA alkaline batteries and are rated for up to 14 hours of battery life. The system can be expanded with compatible BLX components in the same frequency band, with up to 12 compatible systems possible depending on the region and RF environment. It is a practical choice when a system needs both handheld vocal capability and unobtrusive earset operation.

Key Features

  • Dual-Channel BLX88 Receiver: Operates the handheld and bodypack transmitters simultaneously from one receiver.
  • J11 UHF Band: Uses the 596 to 616 MHz frequency range.
  • SM58 Handheld Transmitter: Provides a cardioid dynamic vocal microphone option for speech and singing.
  • MX153 Earset Microphone: Delivers lightweight, omnidirectional hands-free speech pickup.
  • QuickScan Setup: Scans for an available group and channel to simplify setup.
  • AA Battery Operation: Each transmitter is rated for up to 14 hours on two AA alkaline batteries.

Design & Installation

The BLX88 receiver, BLX1 bodypack, and BLX2 handheld transmitter use molded ABS housings. The BLX2 handheld includes an SM58 capsule, whose design uses a cardioid dynamic element, pneumatic shock mount, and steel-mesh grille. The MX153 uses an ultra-lightweight over-ear form factor with a Kevlar-reinforced soft-flex cable and CommShield RF filtering technology.

Connect the BLX88 to power, then connect its XLR or 1/4-inch output to a mixer, powered speaker, or amplifier. Run a group scan on the receiver, set each transmitter to the matching group and channel, and adjust transmitter gain while monitoring the receiver audio LED. Position the MX153 approximately 1/2 inch from the corner of the mouth, and maintain a clear line of sight between transmitters and receiver when possible.
