Mogami PLATINUM STUDIO 50 50-Foot XLR Microphone Cable $259.95
Bundle total: $1,138.95

The Shure BLX288/B58-J11 is a dual-channel analog UHF wireless vocal system designed for two performers, presenters, or speakers who need wireless microphone operation through a PA system or mixer. It pairs a BLX88 dual receiver with two BLX2 handheld transmitters fitted with Beta 58A vocal capsules. The J11 version operates in the 596–616 MHz band; verify that this spectrum is authorized for wireless microphone use at the intended location before purchase.

This system helps simplify two-microphone setups by placing both wireless channels in one compact receiver. Each channel provides its own balanced XLR microphone output and 1/4-inch instrument-level output for connection to compatible mixers, powered speakers, amplifiers, or audio processors. Internal receiver antennas and diversity reception support practical portable sound setups.

The Beta 58A capsules use a supercardioid pickup pattern and a vocal-focused frequency response. Their response emphasizes vocal clarity while the directional pattern helps reduce pickup from off-axis sound sources. The BLX2 transmitters also provide a selectable -10 dB attenuation setting for situations where the receiver indicates overload.

Shure's group and channel scan workflow is intended to make frequency selection straightforward. The receiver scans for an available group and channel, then each transmitter is manually set to match. Up to 12 BLX systems can operate simultaneously depending on the frequency band and local RF environment.

For mobile DJs, houses of worship, schools, event production, karaoke, and live performance, the BLX288/B58-J11 provides a complete two-person wireless vocal front end. Each handheld transmitter uses two AA batteries and is rated for up to 14 hours of alkaline battery life. The system can be used as a standalone two-mic solution or added to a larger mixer-based sound system.

Key Features

  • Dual-Channel Receiver: The BLX88 receives two wireless microphone channels in one unit.
  • J11 Frequency Band: Operates from 596–616 MHz, subject to local authorization.
  • Beta 58A Capsules: Supercardioid dynamic capsules are tailored for close vocal use.
  • QuickScan Setup: Receiver scanning helps locate an available group and channel.
  • Up To 300-Foot Range: Rated working range is 300 feet in line-of-sight conditions.
  • AA Battery Operation: Each BLX2 transmitter runs on two AA batteries.

Design & Installation

The BLX88 receiver and BLX2 transmitter housings are molded ABS for a lightweight, practical wireless-system format. Each handheld combines the transmitter with an integrated Beta 58A capsule, which uses a hardened steel mesh grille, pneumatic shock mount design, and neodymium magnet. Receiver front-panel LEDs indicate audio level and wireless readiness, while alphanumeric displays show group and channel settings.

Place the receiver where its internal antennas have a clear line of sight to the transmitters, away from large metal objects and nearby wireless interference sources when possible. Connect either the individual XLR outputs or 1/4-inch outputs to compatible mixer or amplifier inputs, power the receiver with the included external supply, then scan and match the transmitter group and channel settings. Optional URT2 hardware can be used when rack mounting is required.
