sE Electronics V7 ENG Broadcast Dynamic Microphone

The sE Electronics V7 ENG is a wired handheld dynamic microphone made for electronic news gathering, electronic field production, interviews, commentary, podcasting, and other spoken-word capture. Its extended handle is designed to accept a station identifier or broadcast flag, helping it suit on-camera and field-reporting workflows. A broadcast flag is not included.

Built around the same dynamic capsule platform used in the V7, the V7 ENG is voiced for clear, natural speech with strong intelligibility. Its supercardioid pickup pattern focuses on the person speaking while reducing pickup from the sides and surrounding environment. This can be useful when reporting in busy locations or working close to PA systems.

The microphone uses an aluminum voice coil and neodymium magnet in its DMC7 dynamic capsule. Its 40 Hz to 19 kHz frequency range supports speech and vocal capture with useful low-frequency body and upper-frequency detail. With 300-ohm electrical impedance and a standard 3-pin male XLR output, it connects to compatible mixers, recorders, cameras, and audio interfaces.

For handheld use, the V7 ENG incorporates a patented integrated shockmount that decouples the capsule from mechanical vibration. This design is intended to reduce handling noise and rumble caused by movement during a report or interview. Internal and included external windscreens help reduce wind noise and plosive sounds.

The V7 ENG fits into a professional wired broadcast chain where an XLR microphone is preferred for dependable, direct connection. It can be paired with an XLR cable and a camera, field recorder, mixer, or audio interface with an appropriate microphone input. Its extended 250 mm body adds room for a broadcast flag without changing the familiar handheld microphone format.

Design & Installation

The V7 ENG has an all-metal zinc-alloy housing and a beveled spring-steel grille. The grille is designed to resist dents and corrosion, while its beveled profile helps keep the microphone from rolling on flat surfaces. The microphone measures 54 mm in diameter and 250 mm long.

Connect the 3-pin male XLR output to a compatible XLR cable and microphone input on a camera, field recorder, mixer, or audio interface. Fit a compatible broadcast flag onto the extended handle if required; the flag is sold separately. The package includes a mic clip, thread adapter, black external windscreen, and carrying pouch for setup and transport.
