The Shure SLXD2+/B87A is a digital wireless handheld transmitter built for vocal performances, presentations, worship services, and professional event production. It combines the SLX-D+ transmitter platform with Shure's Beta 87A supercardioid condenser microphone capsule. This standalone transmitter is intended for use with a compatible SLX-D+ wireless receiver.

The Beta 87A capsule is designed for detailed vocal reproduction with a smooth, extended high-frequency response and controlled low-frequency roll-off. Its supercardioid pickup pattern helps focus on the performer while reducing pickup from surrounding sources. That makes it well suited to close-miked lead vocals and spoken-word applications in demanding sound environments.

SLX-D+ provides 24-bit digital audio with a stated dynamic range above 118 dB, supporting clear signal handling from the microphone to the compatible receiver. The G57 version operates across 470 to 608 MHz, providing a 138 MHz tuning range. System latency is specified at 2.8 ms when used within the SLX-D+ platform.

For RF coordination, the SLX-D+ platform supports automatic setup and can maintain linked transmitter and receiver operation when RF conditions change. ShowLink Ease enables compatible receivers to remotely adjust supported transmitter settings, including frequency, RF power, control locks, and firmware updates. AES-256 encryption is included for secure wireless transmission.

The transmitter has an aluminum housing, integrated helical antenna, and backlit LCD for field use. It runs on two included AA batteries or an optional Shure SB903 lithium-ion rechargeable battery. It is a practical expansion choice for an existing SLX-D+ system when a Beta 87A-equipped handheld transmitter is needed.

Design & Installation

The SLXD2+/B87A uses an aluminum transmitter housing with an integrated single-band helical antenna. Its installed Beta 87A capsule uses a supercardioid condenser design, along with a shock-mounted cartridge system and built-in pop filtering. The transmitter body includes a backlit LCD, power switch, menu controls, IR sync port, and battery compartment.

No audio cable is connected directly to this handheld transmitter; it sends audio wirelessly to a compatible SLX-D+ receiver. Select the G57 frequency band only where its 470 to 608 MHz operating range is permitted and appropriate for the local RF environment. Use IR sync for initial pairing, then use a compatible receiver and supported Wireless Workbench or WWB Mobile workflow for system monitoring and configuration.
