Shure GLXD14+/B98-Z3 Dual-Band Wireless Instrument System
$789.00
Mogami PLATINUM STUDIO 50 50-Foot XLR Microphone Cable
$259.95
The Shure GLXD14+/B98-Z3 is a digital wireless instrument microphone system designed for brass, woodwind, and percussion performance. It combines a clip-on BETA 98H/C flexible-gooseneck microphone, GLXD1+ bodypack transmitter, and GLXD4+ tabletop receiver. This configuration gives players a practical wireless alternative to a cabled instrument microphone while keeping the receiver connected to a mixer, recorder, or amplifier.
The included cardioid condenser microphone is intended to focus on the instrument while helping reduce pickup from off-axis stage sound. Its flexible gooseneck, adjustable angle brace, and ratcheting swivel joint allow the microphone position to be tailored to the instrument. The microphone's wide frequency response and high maximum SPL handling make it suitable for acoustic instruments with substantial output levels.
GLX-D+ Dual Band technology operates in the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequency ranges used by the Z3 version. The receiver can scan for an available channel, and the system is designed to move away from interference without interrupting audio. Digital transmission provides a 20 Hz to 20 kHz system audio frequency response with 122 dB A-weighted dynamic range.
The GLXD1+ bodypack uses Shure's SB904 rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It can be charged in the GLXD4+ receiver's built-in charging bay or through the transmitter's USB-C charging port. A 15-minute charge can provide up to 1.5 hours of operation, while the system is rated for up to 12 hours of battery life.
The tabletop GLXD4+ receiver provides balanced XLR microphone-level and 1/4-inch TRS audio outputs for connection to a sound system. Its display shows channel, group, battery runtime, audio level, gain, and operating status. This single-channel system is a good fit for performers, houses of worship, school music programs, and portable live-sound rigs needing a clip-on wireless instrument mic.
Key Features
- Dual-Band Wireless: Operates across 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands.
- Clip-On Instrument Mic: Flexible BETA 98H/C microphone suits brass, woodwinds, and percussion.
- Automatic Frequency Management: Scans channels and responds to interference conditions.
- Rechargeable SB904 Battery: Charges in the receiver or through USB-C.
- Tabletop Receiver Outputs: Balanced XLR and 1/4-inch TRS connections support sound systems.
- Remote Gain Control: Receiver adjusts transmitter gain in 1 dB increments.
Design & Installation
The GLXD4+ receiver uses a PC/ABS housing with two non-removable dual-band half-wave sleeve-dipole antennas. The GLXD1+ bodypack combines an aluminum-alloy and ABS-plastic housing, with a belt clip for wearing on a belt or instrument strap. The included instrument microphone uses a compact clip-on mounting design with a flexible gooseneck for placement adjustment.
Connect the supplied PS43 power supply to the GLXD4+ receiver, then connect its XLR or 1/4-inch output to a mixer, recorder, or amplifier. Clip the microphone to the instrument, connect it to the bodypack's TA4M input, install a charged SB904 battery, and power on the transmitter and receiver to link them. For stronger wireless performance, keep the receiver clear of dense materials and place it with a clear line of sight toward the performer when possible.
