Mogami GOLD STAGE-50 50 Ft XLR Microphone Cable $194.95
Bundle total: $693.95

The Shure BLX14/B98-H11 is a complete analog UHF wireless instrument microphone system for performers who need mobility without placing a microphone stand in front of the instrument. It combines a BLX4 tabletop receiver, BLX1 bodypack transmitter, and a clip-on BETA 98H/C-series instrument microphone. The H11 version operates in the 572–596 MHz frequency band, so buyers should confirm that this band is permitted and workable at their performance location.

This system is intended for brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, including horns, saxophones, clarinets, drums, and similar acoustic sources. Its clip-on microphone arrangement keeps the microphone close to the instrument while allowing the player to move naturally on stage. The cardioid pickup pattern helps prioritize the instrument while reducing pickup from sounds arriving off-axis.

The included wireless version of the microphone is the WB98H/C, based on the BETA 98H/C design. It uses an electret-condenser capsule with a 20 Hz to 20 kHz response and is designed to handle high sound-pressure levels from loud instruments. Its flexible gooseneck, swivel joint, angle brace, and shock-mounted clip allow careful aiming while helping reduce mechanical vibration reaching the mic.

The BLX platform uses analog UHF transmission with internal antenna diversity in the receiver and one-touch QuickScan frequency selection. QuickScan helps locate an available operating frequency when interference is present. Under line-of-sight conditions, the system has a stated operating range of up to 300 feet, though actual performance depends on local RF conditions, obstructions, and interference.

For working musicians, ensembles, houses of worship, school programs, and event setups, the BLX14/B98-H11 provides a direct connection path to a PA system, mixer, or audio interface through its balanced XLR and unbalanced 1/4-inch receiver outputs. The BLX1 bodypack runs for up to 14 hours on two AA alkaline batteries. Additional compatible BLX systems can be added when local spectrum conditions allow.

Key Features

  • H11 UHF Band: Operates from 572 to 596 MHz for matched H11 BLX components.
  • Clip-On Instrument Microphone: The WB98H/C mounts directly to many brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments.
  • Cardioid Condenser Capsule: Focuses on the instrument while helping reduce off-axis sound pickup.
  • QuickScan Frequency Selection: Helps the receiver locate an available frequency for setup.
  • Up To 300-Foot Range: Supports stage movement under line-of-sight operating conditions.
  • Dual Receiver Outputs: Provides balanced XLR and unbalanced 1/4-inch audio connections.

Design & Installation

The BLX4 receiver and BLX1 bodypack use molded ABS housings designed for portable wireless-system use. The receiver has internal diversity antennas, a simple group/channel display, and a two-color audio-status LED. The WB98H/C microphone uses a compact clip, flexible gooseneck, ratcheting swivel joint, angle brace, and isolation shock mount for stable instrument placement.

Place the BLX4 receiver where its internal antennas have a clear path toward the performer, then connect its XLR or 1/4-inch output to a mixer, PA system, or suitable audio input. Clamp the microphone onto the instrument, aim the capsule toward the desired sound source, and secure the BLX1 bodypack to the performer. Match the receiver and transmitter to the H11 frequency band, use QuickScan as needed, and install two AA batteries in the transmitter before use.
