The Mackie FreePlay GO is a compact portable Bluetooth speaker built for convenient music playback at home, on a desk, or wherever a small rechargeable speaker is useful. Its built-in lithium-ion battery reduces dependence on an AC outlet while also providing USB charging for a phone or tablet. A 3.5 mm stereo auxiliary input provides a wired option for compatible line-level devices.

This speaker suits listeners who want a compact all-in-one playback solution rather than a permanently installed audio component. Bluetooth streaming supports music from compatible smartphones, tablets, computers, and other Bluetooth audio sources. Top-panel controls provide access to power, Bluetooth pairing, volume, playback pause, and speaker linking.

The FreePlay GO uses two 2-inch full-range drivers driven by a Class D amplifier rated at 20 watts RMS and 40 watts peak. Its dual passive-radiator design is intended to extend bass response from the compact enclosure. System limiting and amplifier thermal protection help manage operation at higher playback levels.

Mackie specifies a frequency response of 87 Hz to 20 kHz at -10 dB, with a -3 dB response of 120 Hz to 20 kHz. The drivers use treated-paper diaphragms, ceramic magnets, and 0.75-inch voice coils. This combination is housed in a low-profile molded ABS enclosure with a coated metal grille.

The FreePlay GO can work on its own or become part of a two-speaker FreePlay setup. It can link wirelessly with another Mackie FreePlay speaker for stereo or zone-mode playback, with configuration options available through the FreePlay Connect app. This makes it a practical path from personal listening to a simple two-speaker setup without requiring a conventional receiver or amplifier.

Key Features

  • Bluetooth 4.2 Streaming: Streams audio wirelessly and supports app-based control functions.
  • Rechargeable Battery: Provides up to 15 hours of operation, depending on use.
  • Dual 2-Inch Drivers: Two full-range drivers deliver sound from a compact cabinet.
  • Dual Passive Radiators: Help extend bass response and headroom in the enclosure.
  • USB Charging Output: Supplies 5V/2.4A charging for a connected mobile device.
  • FreePlay Speaker Linking: Links with another FreePlay speaker for stereo or zone playback.

Design & Installation

The FreePlay GO uses a matte-black molded ABS enclosure, coated metal grille, treated-paper driver diaphragms, and ceramic magnets. Its compact tabletop form measures 8.3 inches wide, 3.3 inches high, and 3.0 inches deep, with a weight of 1.8 pounds. The enclosure incorporates two passive radiators to support low-frequency performance without adding a larger cabinet.

Place the speaker on a stable tabletop or other flat surface, then connect a Bluetooth device or a 3.5 mm line-level source. For charging, connect the included micro-USB charging cable to the supplied power adapter; use only the factory-authorized power supply. The aux input takes priority when a cable is connected, and an amplifier speaker output must not be connected to the aux input.
