Mogami PLATINUM STUDIO 50 50-Foot XLR Microphone Cable $259.95
Bundle total: $988.95

The Shure KSM32C/SM is a studio kit built around the KSM32C cardioid condenser microphone. It is designed for detailed, neutral capture of vocals, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, ensembles, guitar amplifiers, and other sources where a controlled recording is important. Its cardioid pickup pattern helps focus on the intended source while reducing pickup from the rear and sides.

This microphone suits home studios, professional tracking rooms, content creators, and live-sound users who need a versatile condenser with a compact side-address form factor. The KSM32C uses a ¾-inch single-diaphragm electret capsule rather than a conventional 1-inch large-diaphragm design. Shure engineered the capsule for a smooth, extended response with strong low-frequency performance.

The KSM32C is voiced for transparent, even reproduction rather than pronounced high-frequency emphasis. Its 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and 11 dBA typical self-noise support clean capture of both quiet and high-output sources. A cardioid polar pattern and specified rear rejection help reduce room reflections and nearby instruments in multi-source sessions.

For louder sources, the microphone includes a selectable 15 dB attenuation pad and handles up to 155 dB SPL at 1% THD with the pad engaged into 2,500 or 5,000 ohm loads. A three-position low-frequency filter provides flat response, a 115 Hz low-frequency rolloff, or an 80 Hz low-frequency cutoff. These controls help manage proximity effect, rumble, and excessive low-end energy at the microphone.

The KSM32C/SM Studio Kit provides the accessories needed to position and protect the microphone in a recording setup. It includes a dedicated shock mount, magnetic pop filter, premium zippered carrying case, replacement shock-mount bands, and a threaded adapter. Connect it to a balanced XLR microphone input with 48 V phantom power, then pair it with a suitable preamp, audio interface, mixer, or console.

Key Features

  • ¾-Inch Electret Capsule: Embossed Mylar diaphragm supports smooth, extended capture.
  • Cardioid Polar Pattern: Helps focus pickup on the source in front.
  • Low Self-Noise: 11 dBA typical self-noise supports detailed recordings.
  • Selectable 15 dB Pad: Accommodates high-SPL instruments and amplifiers.
  • Three-Position Low-Cut Filter: Helps manage rumble and excessive low frequencies.
  • Complete Studio Kit: Includes shock mount, pop filter, case, bands, and adapter.

Design & Installation

The KSM32C uses a machined, anodized aluminum-alloy housing with a precision-machined steel grille. Its compact body measures 47.6 x 154.2 mm and weighs 265 g, making it practical for placement on boom stands. The studio kit's shock mount is intended to isolate the microphone from stand-borne vibration, while the magnetic pop filter helps reduce vocal plosives.

Use a balanced three-pin XLR microphone cable and a preamp, mixer, or audio interface that supplies standard 48 V phantom power. Position the Shure logo toward the sound source, and use the supplied shock mount for studio placement. Start with the pad off for normal sources, engage the pad for very loud sources, and select a low-frequency filter when rumble, proximity effect, or low-end buildup needs to be reduced.
