RØDE TF5MP Precision-Matched Condenser Microphone Pair

The RØDE TF5MP is a precision-matched pair of small-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphones built for detailed stereo music recording. It is designed for engineers and musicians who need consistent capture across two microphone channels for ensemble, orchestral, piano, drum, and acoustic-instrument sessions. The included Stereo Bar helps place the microphones as a coordinated stereo array.

Each TF-5 uses an externally biased condenser design with a JFET impedance converter and bipolar output buffer. Its cardioid pickup pattern focuses on sound arriving from the front while helping reduce pickup from the rear. The microphones combine a specified 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response with a low 14 dB SPL equivalent-noise rating.

The TF-5 pair is suited to sources where transient detail, tonal consistency, and stereo imaging matter. A 135 dB SPL rating at 1% THD supports use on louder acoustic sources as well as more delicate performances. With 35 mV/Pa sensitivity, the microphones are designed to capture subtle musical detail when used with suitable preamps.

Design & Installation

The TF-5 has a compact pencil-style small-diaphragm design measuring 98.7 mm long by 20 mm in diameter. Each microphone weighs 114 g, making the pair manageable for stereo bars, stands, and other appropriate microphone mounting hardware. Its externally biased condenser capsule and active electronics are engineered for consistent recording performance.

Mount the two included microphones in the supplied Stereo Bar using the included mic clips, then attach the bar to a compatible stand with the supplied 3/8-inch to 5/8-inch adaptor as needed. Connect each microphone to a separate microphone input that can provide 48V phantom power, with a specified draw of 7 mA per microphone. Use the included windshields when light air movement or close positioning makes them useful, and adjust microphone spacing and angle for the desired stereo technique.
