The Jackson 2919191590 X Series Signature David Ellefson Kelly™ Bird IV is a right-handed, four-string electric bass built for players who want a distinctive offset body shape and direct control over a high-output bass sound. Its basswood Kelly™ Bird body is finished in Red Stripe with black binding for a stage-ready visual identity. The instrument combines a 34-inch scale with a maple fingerboard for a familiar full-scale bass feel.

This model is designed around fast, articulate electric bass performance, particularly for players using driven amplifiers, distortion, or modern high-gain bass rigs. The EMG® HZ35N neck and HZ35B bridge humbuckers use a dual-coil design that helps reduce noise while retaining definition. An onboard active three-band EQ gives the player separate bass, middle, and treble shaping controls.

A quartersawn maple neck with graphite reinforcement and a scarf joint provides a stable bolt-on platform. Its 12-inch to 16-inch compound-radius maple fingerboard becomes flatter higher up the neck, supporting both lower-register groove work and upper-register runs. Twenty-one jumbo frets and black block inlays complete the neck's performance-focused layout.

The Jackson HiMass™ bridge is paired with Jackson sealed die-cast tuning machines to provide a solid hardware foundation for the four-string layout. Nickel-plated steel strings in .045–.105 gauges are factory specified. Dunlop® dual-locking strap buttons are also fitted for secure strap attachment during standing performance.

The Kelly™ Bird IV works as the bass voice in a rehearsal, recording, or live amplification system. Connect it to a bass amplifier, DI, pedalboard, or recording interface appropriate for electric bass, then use the dual pickup volumes and active EQ to tailor its output to the rest of the rig. A professional setup can further optimize action and intonation for a player's preferred string feel and tuning.

Key Features

  • EMG® HZ35 Pickups: Neck and bridge humbuckers provide a low-noise, defined electric bass voice.
  • Active Three-Band EQ: Separate bass, middle, and treble controls support practical tone adjustment.
  • Quartersawn Maple Neck: Graphite reinforcement supports a stable, bolt-on neck design.
  • Compound-Radius Fingerboard: The 12–16 inch maple board supports playing across the neck.
  • Jackson HiMass™ Bridge: A substantial fixed bridge anchors the four-string setup.
  • Dunlop® Dual-Locking Buttons: Factory strap buttons help keep a compatible strap securely attached.

Design & Installation

The bass uses a basswood Kelly™ Bird body with black binding, a gloss Red Stripe finish, and a black-painted pointed four-in-line headstock with white Jackson® logo. Its quartersawn maple neck has a satin finish, black neck and headstock binding, black block position inlays, and a dual-action truss rod. Chrome hardware, dome-style control knobs, and a side-mounted output jack complete the instrument's purposeful design.

As an electric bass, this model should be connected to suitable bass amplification, a DI, or a recording interface with an appropriate instrument input. Before regular use, check tuning, intonation, neck relief, and action; these are normal setup considerations for any fretted instrument. The two pickup volume controls and active bass, middle, and treble EQ provide the primary onboard setup options.
