The BOSS WL-50 is a pedalboard-focused wireless instrument system that replaces the cable between a guitar and the first device in a signal chain. Its compact receiver is sized to sit alongside effects pedals, while the included WL-T transmitter plugs directly into the instrument. It is designed for players who want wireless mobility without adding a separate rack receiver or bodypack to their setup.

The system uses BOSS proprietary digital audio transmission in the 2.4 GHz band and automatically selects an appropriate wireless connection when the transmitter is docked. It provides a specified 65-foot line-of-sight range, 2.3 ms latency, and a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response. Range and available channels can vary with local wireless conditions.

The WL-50 is intended to preserve a familiar guitar-to-pedalboard workflow. Its Cable Tone control offers OFF, SHORT, and LONG settings, allowing players with passive pickups to introduce the tonal character associated with a conventional guitar cable. The bypass setting is also available when cable-tone simulation is not desired.

The receiver includes a built-in transmitter dock for charging and automatic wireless setup. The rechargeable WL-T transmitter is rated for approximately 12 hours of continuous use and can also be charged through its Micro-B USB port. When the receiver is powered with a compatible BOSS PSA-S adaptor, the dock can charge the transmitter.

For pedalboard integration, connect the receiver output to the first pedal or directly to an amp or effects unit. The receiver can run on two included AA alkaline batteries for approximately seven hours, making it suitable for portable use. A DC OUT jack can distribute power to compatible pedals with an optional PCS-20A parallel DC cable when the receiver is operated from a PSA-S adaptor.

Key Features

  • Pedalboard-Size Receiver: Compact receiver integrates at the front of a pedal chain.
  • Auto Wireless Connection: Docking the transmitter automatically establishes the wireless connection.
  • 2.3 ms Latency: Low specified latency supports responsive instrument playing.
  • Cable Tone Control: OFF, SHORT, and LONG settings tailor cable-style tonal behavior.
  • Rechargeable WL-T Transmitter: Provides approximately 12 hours of continuous operation per charge.
  • Flexible Receiver Power: Operates from two AA batteries or an optional PSA-S adaptor.

Design & Installation

The WL-50 receiver uses a compact stompbox-style format measuring 72 mm wide, 121 mm deep, and 56 mm high. Four rubber feet are included for placement when needed, and the transmitter dock is integrated into the receiver layout. BOSS does not publish a housing-material specification for this model.

Install the receiver at the beginning of the pedal chain and connect its 1/4-inch output to the first pedal or an amp/effects input. Power it with two AA alkaline batteries for portable use, or use an optional PSA-S series adaptor when transmitter charging and DC power distribution are needed. For stable operation, BOSS recommends placing the receiver at least three meters from Wi-Fi routers and other wireless devices.
