Arturia MINIBRUTE2S Semi-Modular Analog Synthesizer

The Arturia MiniBrute 2S is a desktop semi-modular analog synthesizer with an integrated step sequencer. It provides a hands-on way to create, shape, and sequence analog sounds without requiring a separate keyboard controller. Its pad-based interface suits electronic musicians, producers, and modular users who prefer performance-oriented sequencing.

Its analog voice begins with two VCOs, a noise generator, and an external audio input routed through a mixer. VCO 1 provides saw, square, and triangle waveforms with UltraSaw, pulse-width, and Metalizer shaping functions, while VCO 2 offers sine, saw, and square waveforms. The result is a flexible monophonic sound source for basses, leads, rhythmic sequences, and experimental patches.

A 12 dB-per-octave Steiner-Parker filter provides low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch modes. The filter can self-oscillate and is joined by Brute Factor processing for additional drive and feedback-style character. Two sync-capable LFOs and ADSR and AD envelopes provide modulation for movement, contour, and rhythmic variation.

The 48-point CV and Gate patchbay extends the internal signal path into Eurorack-compatible control-voltage workflows. It includes voice and sequencer inputs and outputs, plus utility functions including an inverter, attenuators, and a VCA. Normalized internal routing allows the MiniBrute 2S to make sound without patch cables, while patching opens deeper modulation and system-integration options.

Its sequencer uses 16 velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads and 16 encoders for direct pattern programming and editing. Three sequencer tracks can address pitch, gate, velocity, pressure, and modulation functions, with sequences up to 64 steps and 64 memory locations. MIDI, USB, audio, CV, and gate connections let the MiniBrute 2S serve as an analog voice, hardware sequencer, or hub within a broader studio or modular setup.

The MiniBrute 2S uses a compact desktop format with a clearly divided synthesis, patching, and sequencing layout. Arturia does not publish chassis-material details in its product documentation, but the instrument is designed around dedicated knobs, sliders, pads, encoders, and 3.5 mm patch points for direct operation. Its dimensions are 19 x 11 x 2.2 inches, and it weighs 7.7 pounds.

For audio, connect the 1/4-inch mono master output to a mixer, amplifier, or audio interface, or use the dedicated 1/4-inch headphone output for monitoring. Connect a computer through USB Type-B or external MIDI gear through the 5-pin MIDI input and output; use 3.5 mm patch cables for CV, gate, clock, and modular connections. The included 12V DC, 2A power supply and eight patch cables support initial setup, while RackBrute systems can be used for Eurorack expansion.
