Zoom F2-BT Bluetooth 32-Bit Float Lavalier Recorder

The Zoom F2-BT is a compact body-worn field recorder designed for capturing a single lavalier microphone source directly to a microSD card. It is suited to interviews, documentary work, video production, presentations, and other situations where a person needs to be recorded independently of the camera. The included LMF-2 omnidirectional lavalier microphone provides a discreet wired microphone option with a locking 3.5 mm connection.

Its 32-bit float WAV recording and dual A/D converter design reduce the need to set input gain before recording. This approach is useful when a speaker may move between quiet speech and louder moments, helping retain usable detail for adjustment in post-production. Recordings are saved as mono WAV files at either 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz.

The F2-BT is built for straightforward, self-contained operation rather than wireless audio transmission to a camera. Its belt clip helps keep the recorder close to the subject, while the HOLD function can disable button operation after recording begins. A headphone output with dedicated volume controls supports local playback and monitoring.

Bluetooth 4.2 distinguishes the F2-BT version by supporting the Zoom F2 Control app for remote transport and settings control from a compatible smartphone or tablet. The app can display battery status, recording information, and level data, while also providing access to settings such as low-cut, recording format, and output volume. The recorder can also receive and write timecode to recorded files when paired with a compatible UltraSync BLUE timecode device.

For a video workflow, the F2-BT can operate as a dedicated on-talent recorder while the camera records picture separately. Files transfer to a computer over USB-C, and the Zoom F2 Editor provides computer-based settings management and card formatting. Power comes from two AAA batteries, with optional DC 5 V power available through the Zoom AD-17 adapter or supported USB bus power.

Design & Installation

The F2-BT uses a small recorder chassis with an integrated belt clip, physical record and transport controls, status LEDs, and a Power/HOLD switch. Its microphone input and headphone output use 3.5 mm stereo mini connectors with screw-lock capability. The included LMF-2 microphone has a 160 cm cable and a low-profile lavalier form factor for placement on clothing.

Install two matching AAA batteries, insert a compatible Class 4 or higher microSD, microSDHC, or microSDXC card, then connect and secure the lavalier microphone at the input. Use the included clip and windscreen when appropriate, and connect headphones to the output jack for local playback. For remote control, pair the F2-BT with the F2 Control app; for wireless timecode, a separate compatible UltraSync BLUE device is required.
