The Shure SLXD2/B87A=-G58 is a handheld digital wireless transmitter fitted with a BETA 87A supercardioid condenser vocal capsule. It is a component for Shure SLX-D Digital Wireless systems and requires a compatible SLX-D receiver, sold separately. Its G58 frequency band operates from 470 to 514 MHz, so the transmitter and receiver must use the same band.

This model is intended for singers, presenters, houses of worship, event production, and other professional vocal applications that need a handheld wireless microphone. The BETA 87A capsule is designed for close vocal use, with a controlled low-frequency roll-off that helps manage proximity effect. Its supercardioid pickup pattern helps reduce pickup from off-axis sound sources.

SLX-D digital wireless technology delivers 24-bit digital audio with a system latency of 3.2 ms. The system supports a 20 Hz to 20 kHz audio range depending on the microphone, while the included BETA 87A capsule is specified from 50 Hz to 20 kHz. The microphone capsule's smooth response and gradual presence rise are suited to articulate vocal reproduction.

For RF operation, the SLX-D platform uses digital predictive switching diversity, automatic channel scanning, and infrared sync between a receiver and transmitter. The G58 version covers a 44 MHz tuning range from 470 to 514 MHz and supports 1 mW or 10 mW RF output settings. Actual operating range depends on the RF environment, with a specified system working range of up to 100 m (328 ft).

The SLXD2 is built with an aluminum housing, an integrated single-band helical antenna, display, menu controls, and a removable battery cover. It runs on two AA batteries or an optional Shure SB903 rechargeable lithium-ion battery. This package includes the SLXD2/B87A transmitter, a zippered bag, and two AA batteries; a compatible G58-band SLX-D receiver is required to complete the wireless system.

Key Features

  • G58 Frequency Band: Operates from 470 to 514 MHz and must be matched to a G58 SLX-D receiver.
  • BETA 87A Capsule: Supercardioid electret condenser capsule supports focused vocal pickup and controlled proximity effect.
  • 24-Bit Digital Audio: SLX-D technology provides clear digital transmission with 3.2 ms system latency.
  • IR Sync Setup: Align the transmitter with a compatible receiver to transfer frequency settings quickly.
  • Selectable RF Power: Choose 1 mW or 10 mW RF output for the G58 handheld transmitter.
  • Flexible Battery Options: Uses two AA batteries or the optional Shure SB903 rechargeable battery.

Design & Installation

The SLXD2 handheld transmitter uses an aluminum housing and an integrated single-band helical antenna. Its BETA 87A capsule includes a supercardioid pattern, internal pop filtering, and a cartridge shock-mount design intended to help reduce wind, breath, and handling noise. The transmitter measures 37.1 mm in diameter by 176 mm long and weighs 147 g.

To set it up, install the included AA batteries or an optional SB903 battery, then pair the transmitter to a compatible Shure SLX-D receiver using IR sync. The receiver must be the same G58 frequency band for proper operation; the transmitter cannot function as a complete wireless microphone by itself. Before use, scan for an available channel at the receiver and confirm that the selected frequencies are authorized and suitable for the location.
