It pairs a BLX4 tabletop receiver with a BLX2 handheld transmitter carrying an integrated PG58 dynamic microphone capsule. The H9 version operates in the 512–542 MHz UHF band, so local frequency authorization should be verified before use.

This system helps remove the cable run between a handheld microphone and a mixer or amplifier while retaining practical controls for live sound. Its stated line-of-sight working range is up to 300 feet, giving the speaker or vocalist room to move around a stage or presentation area. Actual wireless range can vary with RF interference, reflections, and physical obstructions.

The integrated PG58 capsule uses a cardioid pickup pattern that focuses on sound arriving from the front of the microphone. This pattern is suited to vocals and speech because it helps reduce pickup of off-axis room and stage sound. The system's overall audio frequency response is rated from 50 Hz to 15 kHz, dependent on microphone type.

Shure's BLX platform uses a receiver group scan to locate an available group and channel, then the transmitter is set to the matching selection. The BLX4 receiver provides a ready indicator for received transmitter signal and an audio indicator that shows normal signal level or overload. The BLX2 transmitter also offers a selectable 10 dB gain adjustment range to help accommodate different vocal levels.

The receiver can feed a sound system through its balanced XLR microphone output or unbalanced 1/4-inch instrument-level output. The handheld transmitter runs on two AA alkaline batteries for up to 14 hours under specified conditions. For expanded setups, up to 12 BLX systems may operate simultaneously depending on the frequency band and RF environment.

Design & Installation

The BLX4 receiver and BLX2 transmitter use molded ABS housings designed for portable wireless-system use. The handheld transmitter measures 8.82 inches long and 2.09 inches in diameter, while the compact receiver measures 7.40 inches wide by 4.06 inches deep. A microphone clip, swivel adapter, thread adapter, receiver power supply, and two AA batteries are included.

Place the receiver where it has a practical line of sight to the transmitter and away from nearby metal surfaces or potential RF interference sources. Connect the receiver's XLR or 1/4-inch output to a compatible mixer or amplifier using an appropriate audio cable, then power the receiver and scan for an available group and channel. Set the BLX2 transmitter to the same group and channel as the receiver before performing an audio check and adjusting gain if needed.
