The Shure BLX14/CVL-H9 is a complete wireless lavalier system for presentations, spoken-word events, classrooms, houses of worship, and similar sound-reinforcement applications. It combines a BLX4 tabletop receiver, BLX1 bodypack transmitter, and CVL clip-on lavalier microphone into a single-channel setup. The H9 version operates in the 512–542 MHz frequency range, so spectrum authorization and local frequency availability should be checked before use.

This system is designed for speakers who need hands-free microphone placement without running a cable from the presenter to the sound system. The CVL lavalier attaches to a collar, lapel, or tie with its included clip, helping keep the microphone visually unobtrusive. Its cardioid pickup pattern is intended to prioritize the speaker while reducing pickup from sounds arriving off-axis.

The BLX wireless platform uses analog UHF transmission and supports operation at up to 300 ft line-of-sight under suitable RF conditions. A group scan on the receiver helps locate an available group, while matching the bodypack group and channel completes the connection. Actual operating range depends on signal absorption, reflections, interference, and the surrounding environment.

For speech, the CVL uses an electret condenser element with a tailored response and a supplied foam windscreen to help reduce breath noise, wind, and plosives. The bodypack provides adjustable gain so the input can be set for the speaker and microphone placement. The receiver offers both balanced XLR and 1/4-inch audio outputs for connection to a mixer, powered speaker, amplifier, or installed audio system.

The BLX14/CVL-H9 is a practical starting point for a portable or installed presentation system needing one wireless speaker channel. The BLX1 bodypack is powered by two AA alkaline batteries for up to 14 hours of stated operation. Where local RF conditions permit, the BLX platform can support up to 12 compatible systems per frequency band, with available channel count dependent on region and environment.

  • Complete Wireless System: Includes BLX4 receiver, BLX1 bodypack, and CVL lavalier microphone.
  • Cardioid Lavalier Pickup: Focuses on the presenter while reducing off-axis ambient sound.
  • Up To 300-Foot Range: Supports up to 300 ft line-of-sight in suitable conditions.
  • Up To 14-Hour Battery Life: BLX1 runs on two AA alkaline batteries.
  • Flexible Audio Outputs: BLX4 provides balanced XLR and 1/4-inch output connections.

Design & Installation

The BLX1 bodypack and BLX4 receiver use molded ABS housings suited to regular portable sound and presentation use. The compact CVL microphone has a permanently charged electret condenser element, a 1.3 m attached cable, and a TA4F connector for the BLX1 bodypack. A lavalier clip and windscreen are included for hands-free placement and basic vocal noise control.

Connect the BLX4 receiver to its supplied power supply, then connect its XLR or 1/4-inch output to an appropriate mixer, amplifier, or powered speaker input. Use the receiver group scan, set the BLX1 to the same group and channel, and adjust bodypack gain as needed. For best speech results, Shure recommends positioning the CVL approximately 6–10 inches from the mouth and fitting the supplied windscreen.
