Shure BLX14/CVL-H10 Wireless Lavalier System

The Shure BLX14/CVL-H10 is a complete wireless lavalier microphone system for presentations, speech, classrooms, worship spaces, and similar spoken-word applications. It combines a BLX4 single-channel receiver, BLX1 bodypack transmitter, and CVL clip-on lavalier microphone in the H10 frequency band. This configuration removes the restriction of a wired microphone while keeping the setup focused on one presenter.

The CVL microphone uses an electret-condenser capsule with a cardioid pickup pattern. Its 50 Hz to 20 kHz microphone response and discreet clip-on format support clear speech capture when placed correctly on clothing. The cardioid pattern is designed to focus on the presenter while reducing pickup from surrounding sound sources.

The BLX wireless platform provides a stated line-of-sight working range of up to 300 feet, although actual range depends on RF conditions, obstructions, and interference. The BLX1 transmitter runs on two AA alkaline batteries for up to 14 hours. Its adjustable gain control helps match the microphone level to the connected sound system.

For straightforward setup, the BLX4 receiver can scan for an open group and channel. The transmitter is then set to the matching group and channel, with receiver indicators showing audio activity and signal readiness. Up to 12 BLX systems can operate simultaneously when frequency band and RF environment allow.

The receiver provides both balanced XLR microphone-level and 1/4-inch instrument-level outputs for connection to a mixer or amplifier. This makes the system suitable for installed sound, portable PA systems, and presentation rigs that need a compact wireless speech solution. Additional BLX systems can be coordinated for multi-presenter applications when channel availability permits.

Design & Installation

The BLX4 receiver and BLX1 bodypack use molded ABS housings for lightweight, practical wireless-system construction. The compact bodypack measures 4.33 by 2.52 by 0.83 inches, while the receiver measures 1.57 by 7.40 by 4.06 inches. The CVL includes a TA4F connector, tie clip, and windscreen for discreet placement.

Connect the BLX4 to a mixer or amplifier through its XLR or 1/4-inch output, then connect the included power supply. Install the two AA batteries in the BLX1, connect the CVL microphone, and match the transmitter group and channel to the receiver after a scan. For dependable operation, maintain line of sight where possible, keep the receiver away from major interference sources, and position the lavalier to avoid rubbing against clothing or jewelry.
