The Mackie XR624 is a powered two-way studio monitor built for critical listening, music production, editing, and playback systems that need a direct line-level monitor solution. Its 6.5-inch Kevlar woofer and 1-inch aluminum tweeter are driven by dedicated internal amplification, so no separate power amplifier is required. It is intended for use with mixers, audio interfaces, monitor controllers, and other line-level sources.

This monitor is designed for creators who need to assess balance, detail, and low-frequency content while working on a mix. The XR624 reaches down to 45 Hz at the -3 dB points, providing useful bass extension from a compact cabinet. Its 107 dB SPL rating at 1 meter supports controlled monitoring in project studios, edit suites, and other nearfield listening positions.

A logarithmic waveguide helps acoustically align the high-frequency driver for balanced presentation across the frequency range. The 6.5-inch Kevlar woofer is paired with a 1-inch black-anodized aluminum tweeter in a bi-amplified design. A 24 dB-per-octave Linkwitz-Riley crossover at 2.7 kHz manages the transition between the two drivers.

The XR624 uses Mackie's ELP Bass Reflex System, a custom-tuned rear-port design that uses rear woofer energy to extend low-frequency output. The port geometry is engineered to reduce turbulence while supporting bass response and output capability. An internal high-pass protection filter below port tuning also helps limit excessive woofer excursion from very low frequencies.

Room-placement controls help adapt the XR624 to free-standing, wall-adjacent, or corner positions. The Acoustic Space switch applies compensation for whole, half, or quarter-space placement, while separate low- and high-frequency filters provide further adjustment. For a stereo monitoring setup, use a matched XR624 for each left and right channel and connect each monitor directly to the appropriate line-level output.

Key Features

  • 6.5-Inch Kevlar Woofer: Provides the low-frequency driver area and material specified for the XR624.
  • 1-Inch Aluminum Tweeter: Handles high-frequency detail with a black-anodized aluminum diaphragm.
  • 160W Bi-Amplified Power: Includes 100W for low frequencies and 60W for high frequencies.
  • ELP Bass Reflex System: Custom rear-port design extends low-frequency response with reduced turbulence.
  • Room Compensation Controls: Acoustic Space, LF, and HF filters help tailor response to placement.
  • Balanced XLR And TRS Inputs: Connects directly to professional line-level audio sources.

Design & Installation

The XR624 uses an all-wood MDF enclosure with internal cabinet bracing, open-cell acoustic foam damping, and a black wood-grain vinyl and black-painted finish. Its rear-panel electronics house the Class-D amplifiers, input connections, power controls, and acoustic adjustment switches. The front-panel indicator shows amplifier power status and changes to red when overload protection is triggered.

Connect one line-level source to either the XLR or 1/4-inch TRS input using shielded audio cable, then connect the included detachable AC line cord to a correctly configured AC outlet. Position the monitor vertically when possible; if used horizontally, place the woofer toward the inside of a stereo pair. Leave at least 3 inches of clearance behind the cabinet for ventilation, and set the Acoustic Space control for free-standing, wall, or corner placement.
