PreSonus R65 V2 6.5" Active AMT Studio Monitor

The PreSonus R65 V2 is a self-powered, two-way nearfield studio monitor designed for accurate playback in recording, mixing, and mastering spaces. Its built-in amplification eliminates the need to match an external power amp to the speaker. Each monitor combines a 6.5-inch woven-composite low-frequency driver with an Air Motion Transformer high-frequency driver.

It is suited to musicians, producers, engineers, and content creators who need a compact monitor for a desktop studio or dedicated listening position. The R65 V2 is sold as an individual monitor, so a stereo setup requires two units. Balanced and unbalanced analog inputs make it compatible with many audio interfaces, monitor controllers, mixers, and media sources.

The R65 V2 has a specified 45 Hz to 22 kHz frequency response and a maximum SPL rating of 104 dB at 1 meter. Its 6.5-inch low-frequency driver is intended to provide clear midrange and low-frequency reproduction. The AMT tweeter supports a wide horizontal listening area while maintaining focused vertical dispersion.

PreSonus uses a custom AMT high-frequency driver with a 6.8-square-inch diaphragm area and an equivalent 3-inch diaphragm diameter. The active biamped design supplies 75 watts to the LF driver and 65 watts to the HF driver through Class A/B amplification. A 2.7 kHz crossover divides the signal between the two drivers.

Four rear-panel acoustic controls help adapt the R65 V2 to room placement and personal monitoring needs. High and mid controls adjust tonal balance, while Low Cut and Acoustic Space settings help manage low-frequency buildup near walls or when integrating a subwoofer. This makes the monitor practical for a primary nearfield pair or as part of a flexible 2.1 studio monitoring system.

Design & Installation

The R65 V2 uses a vinyl-laminated MDF cabinet finished in black. Its front-facing AMT waveguide is designed for broad horizontal coverage with tighter vertical dispersion. The cabinet measures 8 inches wide, 13 inches high, and 10.3 inches deep, and each monitor weighs 14.7 pounds.

Use the R65 V2 vertically, not horizontally, and connect only one source at a time to its XLR, TRS, or RCA input. For reduced wall reflections, PreSonus recommends placing monitors about 8 to 12 inches away from walls and corners when possible. Use balanced XLR or TRS connections when available, then set the input gain and acoustic controls for the room and listening position.
