Kenwood DAX8000S 8" Single-DIN Digital Media Receiver

The Kenwood DAX8000S is an 8-inch digital multimedia receiver designed for direct-replacement vehicle upgrades where a conventional radio chassis and separate display installation are needed. Its flush-mount monitor and compact single-DIN source unit help accommodate dashboards with limited space behind the screen. It is intended for drivers who want modern smartphone integration while retaining a clean, factory-oriented installation approach.

Wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provide access to supported navigation, calls, messages, and audio apps through the capacitive touchscreen or voice control. Split-screen operation can display a CarPlay or Android Auto interface alongside a Kenwood source. Built-in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and HD Radio add everyday connectivity and broadcast-radio options.

The DAX8000S supports high-resolution audio playback through its USB connection, with a 24/32-bit D/A converter and playback support for common lossless and compressed formats. A 13-band graphic equalizer and digital time alignment let installers and listeners tailor tonal balance and staging for the vehicle. Three 4-volt preouts provide a solid signal foundation for external amplifiers and a more advanced sound system.

Its 1280 x 720 HD LCD uses an electrostatic capacitive touch panel, LED backlighting, and a wide 8-inch viewing area for clear control of media and vehicle functions. The display and chassis are separate, allowing the chassis to be installed vertically or horizontally when vehicle packaging requires flexibility. An optional extension cable is available if the supplied display-to-chassis cable length is not sufficient for the installation.

For camera-equipped or safety-focused upgrades, the receiver offers four camera inputs and compatibility with supported HD front and rear cameras. It is also ready to work with the optional Kenwood DRV-N520 dash camera, which can be controlled and viewed from the touchscreen. When used with compatible iDatalink Maestro integration hardware and vehicle-specific installation parts, it can support retention of selected factory controls and vehicle information features.

Design & Installation

The DAX8000S combines an 8-inch LCD monitor with a separate compact receiver chassis. Its screen uses a TFT active-matrix LCD, LED backlighting, and an electrostatic capacitive touch panel. The flush-mount display arrangement is designed for direct-replacement integrations rather than a typical floating-screen installation.

Professional installation is recommended because fitment depends on the vehicle and may require vehicle-specific direct-replacement parts, wiring interfaces, and compatible iDatalink Maestro hardware. The chassis measures 178 x 50 x 105 mm and may be mounted vertically or horizontally, while the display measures 190 x 120 x 28 mm. Use the USB-C connection for supported smartphone integration, USB media playback, and compatible-device charging up to 3.0 amps.
