JVC KD-X38MBS Single DIN Marine Digital Media Receiver

The JVC KD-X38MBS is a Single DIN digital media receiver designed for marine, motorsports, and other vehicle installations where compact audio control and Bluetooth connectivity are needed. It combines AM/FM radio, USB playback, auxiliary input, Bluetooth calling, and wireless music streaming in a shallow chassis. Its conformal-coated circuit board provides added protection against moisture, condensation, salt spray, and airborne contaminants.

This receiver is a practical choice for boats, UTVs, ATVs, and compatible vehicles that need a wired in-dash source unit without a CD mechanism. The front-panel USB port supports playback from compatible mass-storage devices and provides up to 1.5A charging. A front 3.5 mm auxiliary input offers a direct connection for portable audio players.

Its built-in amplifier delivers 22 watts by four channels of full-bandwidth power at less than 1% THD, with 50 watts by four channels maximum output. The 13-band equalizer, high-pass and low-pass crossover controls, Digital Time Alignment, Sound Lift, and other sound tools provide useful adjustment for a variety of speaker layouts. FLAC playback up to 24-bit/96 kHz gives USB-based music libraries a higher-resolution playback option.

Bluetooth 4.2 supports hands-free calling, phonebook access, wireless audio streaming, and remote-control functions with compatible devices. The receiver can keep two Bluetooth phones connected and, in Bluetooth audio mode, lets users connect and switch among up to five audio devices. A supplied external microphone supports clearer hands-free calling and can be positioned for the installation.

The KD-X38MBS can serve as the control point for a basic speaker system or a more developed amplified system. Its three 4-volt RCA pre-outs provide dedicated front, rear, and subwoofer outputs for external amplifiers. SiriusXM capability is available when an optional compatible SiriusXM Vehicle Tuner and subscription are added.

Design & Installation

The KD-X38MBS uses a compact, short-depth chassis measuring 3-15/16 inches deep behind the mounting surface. Its 2-line VA LCD display is designed for broad viewing angles, while two-zone variable-color illumination allows front-panel lighting customization. The detachable faceplate, trim plate, mounting sleeve, and wiring harness are included for installation.

This receiver fits a standard Single DIN opening and is intended for in-dash mounting at an angle of less than 30 degrees. Use a vehicle-specific wiring harness where available, connect the 10A fused power wiring correctly, and match connected speakers to the specified 4 to 8 ohm impedance range. For expanded systems, use the dedicated 4V RCA pre-outs with external amplifiers; SiriusXM requires a separately purchased compatible tuner and subscription.
