The Mackie CHROMIUM is a USB condenser microphone with a built-in two-channel mixer for recording, streaming, podcasting, online meetings, and music creation. It combines microphone capture, computer connectivity, headphone monitoring, and external-input control in one desktop-oriented unit. This helps simplify a compact recording setup by reducing the need for separate basic monitoring and input hardware.

Designed for content creators, singer-songwriters, musicians, and home-studio users, the CHROMIUM connects directly to a computer through USB-C. Its class-compliant interface is designed for plug-and-play operation without a driver requirement. An included USB-C cable connects the microphone to a computer USB port.

The microphone uses three 16 mm electret capsules and offers four selectable polar patterns: cardioid, bi-directional figure-8, omni-directional, and stereo. Cardioid mode is suited to focused voice or instrument capture, while figure-8 can serve face-to-face interviews or duets. Omni and stereo modes add flexible options for room capture, group use, field recording, and instruments.

Onyx microphone preamp circuitry supports a clear, low-noise signal path, while onboard gain adjustment helps set the microphone level for a computer or DAW. Professional input and output metering provides a visual level reference. The microphone supports 16-bit, 48 kHz digital audio operation.

The integrated mixer section accepts a 1/4-inch instrument or line-level source and a stereo 1/8-inch auxiliary source. A separate headphone output, volume control, and Direct/USB blend control support monitoring while recording or listening to computer playback. With its built-in mixer stand and adjustable microphone angle, the CHROMIUM can serve as a compact starting point for a desktop recording or streaming system.

  • Four Polar Patterns: Select cardioid, figure-8, omni, or stereo pickup for different recording situations.
  • Onyx Mic Preamplifier: Supports a clear, low-noise microphone signal path.
  • Built-In Two-Channel Mixer: Adds instrument and auxiliary source control at the microphone.
  • USB-C Computer Interface: Connects directly to a computer with class-compliant, driver-free operation.

  • Onboard Metering And Mute: Helps monitor levels and mute the microphone signal when needed.

Design & Installation

The CHROMIUM combines a side-address condenser microphone with a built-in mixer stand. Its controls include microphone gain, polar-pattern selection, instrument level, auxiliary level, headphone volume, monitor blend, and microphone mute. Rugged construction and an integrated stand make it suitable for desktop recording, streaming, and communication setups.

Connect the included USB-C cable from the microphone to a directly available computer USB port, then select USB Microphone as the input and output device in the computer settings. Connect stereo headphones to the 1/8-inch phones jack and use the blend control to balance direct microphone monitoring with computer playback. The 1/4-inch input accepts balanced or unbalanced instrument or line-level sources, while the 1/8-inch auxiliary input accepts a stereo line-level source such as a phone or music player.
