Zoom L-20R Rackmount Digital Mixer/Multitrack Recorder

The Zoom LiveTrak L-20R is a rack-mountable digital mixer, multitrack recorder, and USB audio interface designed for live performance, rehearsal, and recording workflows. It combines 16 mono mic/line channels with two stereo line input channels in a compact rack-ready format. Musicians, venues, worship teams, and mobile engineers can manage a full stage mix while capturing individual tracks directly to an SD card.

Its 22-track recording capability lets users record 20 input channels plus a stereo master mix simultaneously at supported sample rates. This makes it practical for documenting live shows, creating rehearsal recordings, or bringing multitrack files into a DAW for later editing. The mixer can also play back up to 20 tracks for overdubbing and production work.

The L-20R is built around quiet mic preamps with up to +60 dB of input gain and a measured equivalent input noise rating of -128 dBu EIN. Each mono channel includes single-knob compression, 3-band EQ, pan control, and low-cut filtering for practical source shaping. Two onboard effects buses provide 20 selectable reverb, delay, chorus, and combined effects programs.

Six independent monitor outputs allow performers to use separate monitor or in-ear mixes, while a dedicated front-of-house headphone output supports mix checking from the rack. Wireless iPad control lets the front-of-house engineer and performers adjust supported mix functions away from the hardware. Scene Recall stores up to nine setups with monitor, EQ, effects, and related settings for repeatable shows.

For studio and computer-based setups, the L-20R operates as a 22-in/4-out USB 2.0 audio interface at 44.1 or 48 kHz. It can route audio to compatible DAWs, streaming software, and supported iOS devices while recording to SD card. Rack ears, the Bluetooth adapter, and the AD-19 power adapter are included, making it ready to integrate into a portable or installed rack system.

Design & Installation

The L-20R uses a rack-mountable chassis measuring 438 mm wide, with included rack ears for installation. Its rear and front-panel connection layout provides dedicated XLR master outputs, balanced monitor outputs, combo mic/line inputs, stereo line inputs, USB connectivity, and SD-card recording. A backlit 128 × 64 LCD and encoder provide direct access to recorder and system settings.

Install the unit in a rack or place it where input and output cabling can be reached easily. Connect microphones and instruments to the 16 combo inputs, line-level sources to the stereo inputs, and powered monitors, headphones, or in-ear systems to the designated outputs. Use a compatible Class 10 SDHC or SDXC card for recording, and connect a computer by USB when using the L-20R as an audio interface.
