The Mackie 3204VLZ4 is a 32-channel analog 4-bus mixer with integrated effects and USB connectivity for larger live-sound, worship, broadcast, recording, and production setups. It gives engineers a centralized way to manage numerous microphones, instruments, playback sources, monitor mixes, and subgroup assignments. Its expanded input count and routing options suit systems that have outgrown compact mixers.
Twenty-eight Onyx microphone preamps provide a wide 60 dB gain range for microphones and line-level sources. The mixer is designed around a high-headroom, low-noise analog signal path, with RF rejection intended to help in broadcast-oriented environments. Individual channel level, pan, solo, overload, and mute indication supports practical operation during live events.
Channels 25 through 28 include dedicated inline single-knob compression for controlling critical sources such as vocals or percussion. Four subgroups also have dedicated inline compressors, allowing grouped signals to be managed before they are sent onward. Mono channels include a three-band EQ with sweepable midrange and a 100 Hz low-cut filter for corrective tonal shaping.
Dual 32-bit RMFX+ processors provide onboard reverbs, choruses, and tap-delay effects for live applications. Six auxiliary sends support monitor mixes, external processing, and effects routing, while two stereo returns provide additional return paths. The mixer also includes four group outputs with inserts, making it suitable for systems that need flexible signal distribution.
Its integrated 4x2 USB interface can send up to four streams to a computer while returning stereo playback to the mixer. This supports recording subgroups or the main left/right mix, plus computer playback for walk-in music or production work. Long-throw faders, stereo metering, and a steel chassis make the 3204VLZ4 appropriate for permanent installations and portable production rigs.
Key Features
- 32-Channel Analog Format: Provides broad capacity for microphones, instruments, and stereo playback sources.
- 28 Onyx Mic Preamps: Supplies 60 dB of gain range for connected microphones.
- Inline Channel Compression: Channels 25-28 provide single-knob compression for priority inputs.
- Four Compressed Subgroups: Helps manage grouped sources such as drums or vocal sections.
- Dual RMFX+ Processors: Adds onboard reverb, chorus, and tap-delay effects.
- 4x2 USB Interface: Records up to four mixer streams and returns stereo computer playback.
Design & Installation
The 3204VLZ4 uses a rugged steel chassis with a powder-coat finish, sealed rotary controls, 60 mm log-taper faders, and high-contrast control labeling. A 12-segment stereo meter provides visual level monitoring. Its console-style layout places input controls, aux routing, subgroup functions, effects, and master controls in dedicated sections.
Allow a stable surface with space for the 38-inch-wide chassis and rear-panel cable access. Connect microphones and line sources to the appropriate channels, route main outputs to a sound system, and use aux sends for monitors or external processors. USB can be connected to a compatible Mac or PC when four-channel recording output or stereo computer playback is needed.
