The Mackie MIX12FX is a compact 12-channel analog mixer designed for small live sound systems, rehearsals, streaming setups, and simple stereo recording. It brings microphones, instruments, keyboards, playback devices, and external audio gear together in one straightforward control surface. Four mic/line channels and four stereo line channels provide practical connectivity without requiring a large-format console.

Built around high-headroom, low-noise circuitry, the MIX12FX is intended to keep multiple sources clear and manageable as a mix takes shape. Each of the four mono input channels includes gain control, three-band EQ, pan, level control, overload indication, and a 75 Hz low-cut filter. This makes it useful for handling vocals, direct boxes, mono instruments, and other microphone or line-level sources.

The mixer includes 12 selectable onboard effects, covering room and hall reverbs, plate-style reverbs, chorus, flanger, slapback, and space echo. Individual channel FX controls let the user choose how much signal is sent to the internal processor or the external FX send. The effect return is blended into the main mix with a dedicated FX-to-main control.

For stereo sources, channels 5/6 through 11/12 accept 1/4-inch left and right line inputs and include balance, level, overload indication, and selectable +4 dB or -10 dB operating levels. Dedicated RCA tape inputs and outputs support convenient playback and stereo recording connections. Main, control-room, and headphone outputs provide separate ways to feed speakers, monitors, recorders, and headphones.

The MIX12FX fits well as the central analog control point in a compact PA or desktop production system. Connect the balanced main outputs to powered speakers, or to an amplifier driving passive speakers, while using the control-room outputs for monitors. Its compact metal chassis and external AC power supply make it practical for portable setups as well as permanent small-system installations.

Key Features

  • 12-Channel Configuration: Combines four mono mic/line channels with four stereo line channels for compact multi-source mixing.
  • Four Mic/Line Inputs: XLR microphone inputs and 1/4-inch line inputs accommodate mics, DI boxes, and line-level gear.
  • Three-Band EQ: High, mid, and low controls help tailor the tone of the four mono channels.
  • Integrated Effects: Twelve selectable reverbs, modulation effects, and delays add ambience without external processing.
  • 75 Hz Low-Cut Filters: Per-channel high-pass filtering on mono channels helps reduce unwanted low-frequency rumble.
  • Flexible Monitoring Outputs: Main, control-room, headphone, RCA tape, and FX-send connections support practical system routing.

Design & Installation

The MIX12FX uses a rugged metal chassis with a compact tabletop format measuring 11.7 inches wide, 9.6 inches deep, and 2.1 inches high. Clearly separated channel strips provide hands-on access to gain, EQ, effects send, pan or balance, and level controls. A 60 mm main L/R fader provides physical control of the overall mix output.

For setup, connect microphones or mono sources to channels 1-4, connect keyboards and stereo playback gear to channels 5/6 through 11/12, and route the balanced main outputs to powered speakers or an amplifier. Use the RCA tape outputs for stereo recording and the RCA tape inputs for playback from a compatible device. Start with channel and main levels down, make connections, then raise levels gradually while watching the overload indicators.
