PreSonus STUDIOLIVE24R Digital Rack Mixer with Studio One Pro

The PreSonus STUDIOLIVE24R is a 2U digital rack mixer built for live sound, recording, installed systems, and personal-monitoring workflows. It combines 24 remotely controlled XMAX microphone preamps with flexible digital routing in a compact rackmount format. Use it as a standalone remote-controlled mixer, a stage box for a compatible StudioLive Series III console, or a dedicated monitor mixer.

This mixer suits bands, venues, churches, production teams, and studios that need substantial input capacity without a large physical mixing surface. Its 26 analog inputs include 24 locking combo mic/line connections plus a stereo RCA input pair. Remote control through UC Surface lets an engineer mix from a Mac, Windows computer, iPad, or Android tablet connected to the same network.

The STUDIOLIVE24R provides clean, high-headroom input and output performance for microphones, line-level sources, playback devices, powered speakers, amplifiers, and headphone monitoring. Its XMAX preamps offer up to 60 dB of gain and individually switchable 48V phantom power for condenser microphones. Fat Channel processing is available across channels and buses for practical control of dynamics and tone.

Its dual-core FLEX DSP engine supports 286 simultaneous processors, including modeled EQ and compressor options, plus four FLEX FX slots for reverbs and delays. Sixteen FlexMix buses can be configured for auxiliary, subgroup, or matrix duties, while four dedicated effects buses and four dedicated subgroups support more involved live-routing setups. The onboard stereo SD recorder and 64x64 USB audio interface add recording capability without requiring a separate interface.

For expandable systems, the STUDIOLIVE24R connects to compatible StudioLive Series III equipment and EarMix 16M personal mixers through AVB networking. In Stage Box mode, its 24 preamps can be controlled from a compatible StudioLive Series III console. The included Studio One Pro software bundle, Capture recording software, and remote-control applications make it a practical foundation for a connected live-and-recording system.

Design & Installation

The STUDIOLIVE24R uses a black 2U, 19-inch-wide steel rackmount chassis designed for portable racks and permanent installations. Its front and rear connection layout provides locking combo input jacks, dedicated main outputs, FlexMix outputs, USB, Ethernet control, and EtherCON AVB networking. The compact 12-inch depth helps it fit efficiently in live racks while retaining 24 mic/line input channels.

Mount the mixer in a standard 19-inch equipment rack with ventilation appropriate for the installation environment. Connect microphones and line sources to the locking combo inputs, connect main XLR outputs to the sound system, and use the 12 balanced TRS FlexMix outputs for monitors, sends, subgroups, or matrix feeds. For wireless remote control, connect the network-control port to a compatible LAN and wireless router, then run UC Surface on a computer or supported tablet.
