The Zoom LiveTrak L6max is a compact 12-channel digital mixer and multitrack recorder for musicians, podcasters, streamers, and electronic performers. It combines hands-on mixing, direct microSD recording, USB audio interfacing, MIDI connectivity, and sound-pad playback in one portable unit. It is designed for sessions where a conventional mixer, recorder, and computer interface would otherwise require separate hardware.
Four XLR/TRS combo inputs support microphones, instruments, and line-level devices, while eight TS line inputs provide four stereo input channels for synths, drum machines, playback devices, and effects. Channels 1 through 4 use dual A/D converter circuits and 32-bit float recording to accommodate wide input dynamics without normal gain adjustment. Two Hi-Z-capable inputs also allow compatible instruments to connect directly.
The L6max records up to 14 tracks simultaneously at 48 kHz/32-bit float WAV, including individual channel tracks and a stereo mix. Projects are stored on compatible microSDHC or microSDXC cards, and tracks can be bounced to continue overdubbing. This makes it practical for rehearsals, live performances, interviews, podcast sessions, and compact recording rigs.
Each channel includes a 3-band EQ with variable mid frequency control, while the master section adds compression and six built-in effects. AI Noise Reduction analyzes ambient sound and can reduce unwanted environmental and electronic noise at the master output. Four assignable sound pads provide an additional way to play cues, jingles, samples, or recorded material during a session.
The L6max can also serve as a 14-input/4-output USB audio interface for computers and compatible iOS or Android devices while recording to microSD at the same time. Dedicated MIDI IN and OUT connections, USB MIDI, and MIDI-clock pad synchronization support integration with DAWs, controllers, synths, and grooveboxes. Battery, USB bus, USB power-bank, and included AD-17 adapter operation make it suitable for both fixed and mobile setups.
Key Features
- 12-Channel Input Layout: Four mono combo inputs and four stereo line channels support diverse sources.
- 32-Bit Float Recording: Captures up to 14 simultaneous tracks at 48 kHz.
- Dual A/D Converters: Inputs 1-4 handle broad dynamics without conventional gain adjustment.
- AI Noise Reduction: Learns ambient noise and reduces it at master outputs.
- Four MIDI-Sync Sound Pads: Trigger samples, cues, and loops with selectable playback modes.
- USB Audio Interface: Provides 14 inputs and four outputs for compatible devices.
Design & Installation
The L6max uses a compact, portable chassis with a high-contrast 128 × 64 OLED display, eight channel encoders, dedicated transport controls, illuminated sound pads, and six-segment level meters. Its control layout keeps channel level, panning, EQ, sends, and sound-pad functions accessible without relying exclusively on a computer. Zoom does not specify a chassis material in the published technical specifications.
Connect microphones, instruments, and line-level sources before routing the balanced master outputs to powered monitors or a PA system. Use a Class 10-or-higher microSDHC or microSDXC card for onboard recording, and use a USB-C data cable for computer, smartphone, or tablet audio connections. The optional ERL-6 adapter can install the L6max in a 66HP Eurorack space; for portable use, power the unit with four AA batteries, USB bus power, a 5V power bank, or the included AD-17 adapter.

Can I connect microphones, guitars, and synthesizers?
Yes. The L6max has four XLR/TRS combo MIC/LINE inputs, including two Hi-Z-capable inputs, plus eight TS line inputs arranged as four stereo line channels. Channels 5-8 also have a -20 dB pad for high-output line sources.
What do I need for standalone multitrack recording?
You need a compatible Class 10-or-higher microSDHC or microSDXC card. The mixer records up to 14 tracks simultaneously as 48 kHz, 32-bit float mono or stereo WAV files.
Can it work as a computer or mobile audio interface?
Yes. It functions as a 14-input/4-output USB 2.0 audio interface at 48 kHz with compatible computers, iOS devices, and Android devices. A USB-C cable that supports data transfer is required.
How can the L6max be powered?
It can run from four AA alkaline, lithium, or rechargeable NiMH batteries, USB bus power, a 5V mobile battery, or the included Zoom AD-17 AC adapter. Battery run time varies by battery type and operating conditions.
Can the sound pads synchronize with external gear?
Yes. Each of the four sound pads can be assigned a MIDI note and can be set to synchronize recording or playback starts to an external MIDI clock. MIDI clock can be received through MIDI IN or USB MIDI.
Can I mount it in a Eurorack system?
Yes, with the separately available Zoom ERL-6 Eurorack Adapter. The adapter mounts the L6max in a 66HP Eurorack space.
