The Mackie DL16SE is a 16-channel digital rack mixer for live sound, rehearsal rooms, installed systems, and compact recording setups. Its stagebox-style format places microphone, instrument, and output connections in one rack-ready unit rather than at a traditional front-of-house console. It is designed for users who need flexible mixing without dedicating space to a large physical board.
Sixteen Onyx+ microphone preamps provide the input stage for microphones, line-level sources, and selected instruments. Inputs 1-8 use balanced XLR connectors, while inputs 9-16 use combo XLR/TRS connectors. Inputs 15 and 16 also support high-impedance instrument connections for direct connection of passive guitars or basses.
Mixing is handled through the Master Fader SE control app using a connected iOS, Android, macOS, or Windows device. An external router connects to the mixer's Ethernet port for wireless control, allowing the engineer to work from different positions in the venue. Up to 20 devices can control the system simultaneously, which can be useful when musicians need access to their own monitor mixes.
Each input channel includes processing such as four-band parametric EQ, a high-pass filter, gate, compression, and RTA/Spectrograph tools. The output section adds four-band EQ, high- and low-pass filtering, 31-band graphic EQ, compression/limiting, and alignment delay. Four stereo FX processors provide dedicated send and return paths for reverbs, delays, choruses, flangers, and other effects.
The DL16SE also functions as a 16-in/16-out USB audio interface for Mac or Windows computers. This supports multitrack recording, playback of backing tracks, and virtual soundchecks through a DAW or compatible audio software. With eight assignable XLR outputs, six aux sends, six subgroups, and a main L/R bus, it can serve as the central routing and processing hub of a portable PA or rack-based studio system.
Key Features
- 16 Onyx+ Preamps: Connect microphones, line sources, and instruments through professional input stages.
- Rack-Ready Stagebox: Keeps I/O and mixing hardware together in a compact 3U format.
- Master Fader SE Control: Mix remotely from compatible mobile devices and computers.
- 16x16 USB Audio: Record multitrack performances and play back audio from a computer.
- Extensive Channel DSP: Shape inputs and outputs with EQ, dynamics, filters, and analysis tools.
- Four Stereo FX Engines: Add dedicated time-based and modulation effects without consuming aux busses.
Design & Installation
The DL16SE uses a stagebox/rack design with a built-in handle and included rack ears. It occupies three standard rack spaces and measures 14.1 inches wide by 5.6 inches high by 5.2 inches deep. Its front-panel layout includes a headphone output, USB-B connection, external Ethernet control port, and power/status indicators.
For installation, connect microphones and sources to the 16 analog inputs, then route the eight balanced XLR outputs to powered speakers, amplifiers, monitor systems, or other destination equipment. Connect an external wireless router to the Ethernet control port with a CAT5 cable, using a router LAN port rather than its WAN port. A Mac or Windows computer may be connected through USB-B for 16-channel recording and playback; Windows requires the Mackie USB driver, while compatible macOS systems use class-compliant audio.
