JVC KW-M690BW Double-DIN 6.8" Wireless CarPlay Receiver

The JVC KW-M690BW is a double-DIN digital multimedia receiver designed to bring modern smartphone access, hands-free calling, and flexible audio control to an existing vehicle. Its 6.8-inch capacitive touchscreen provides a central interface for compatible phone functions, USB media, Bluetooth audio, AM/FM radio, and connected camera views. It is a practical upgrade for drivers replacing a basic factory radio or adding a touchscreen receiver to a compatible dash.

Wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto let compatible smartphones provide familiar navigation, messaging, calling, and music-app access through the receiver. Bluetooth adds wireless calling and audio streaming outside of those interfaces. For compatible phones, JVC MirrorApp+ also supports wireless screen mirroring for selected applications.

The built-in four-channel amplifier is rated at 22 watts per channel of full-bandwidth power at less than 1% THD, with a 50-watt maximum rating per channel. A 13-band graphic equalizer, selectable crossover settings, subwoofer level control, and time alignment help tailor the system to the vehicle and speaker layout. Three preouts for front, rear, and subwoofer channels allow the receiver to serve as the source unit in a system with external amplification.

The 6.8-inch WSVGA display uses a 1024 x 600 RGB panel and capacitive touch operation for clear menus and responsive control. Gesture Touch Control provides another way to operate supported sources from the screen. The receiver also supports playback of a broad range of audio and video files from a compatible USB device.

A short 85.7 mm chassis depth leaves additional room behind the dashboard for wiring and can simplify installation in tight double-DIN locations. Rear-view camera input, video output, steering-wheel-control readiness, and iDatalink Maestro connectivity support integration with compatible vehicle equipment. The KW-M690BW can be used as a straightforward factory-radio replacement or as the control center for a more developed amplified speaker and subwoofer system.

Design & Installation

The KW-M690BW combines a double-DIN front panel with a compact short-depth chassis measuring 85.7 mm deep. Its transparent TN LCD uses TFT active-matrix drive, LED backlighting, and RGB striped pixel arrangement. Physical volume controls, a remote sensor, and touchscreen operation provide multiple ways to control the receiver.

Confirm double-DIN dash compatibility and vehicle-specific wiring requirements before installation. The receiver connects to vehicle power, speakers, AM/FM antenna, parking-brake detection switch, and optional camera or external amplifiers; JVC recommends professional mounting and wiring. Factory steering-wheel controls require a compatible third-party adapter, while the optional RM-RK259 remote is available separately.
