The JBL R4500 is a marine digital media receiver designed to bring radio, wired media, and Bluetooth streaming together at the helm. Its 4-inch color display, rotary controls, and clearly organized source selection help make operation practical in a boat, UTV, or other marine-oriented installation. AM, FM, and weather-band reception provide listening options when a phone or USB drive is not in use.
Built-in Bluetooth 5.0 lets a compatible device stream music wirelessly to the receiver, while the rear USB input supports playback and charging. The USB interface supports file browsing, repeat, random, and intro-play functions for compatible flash drives. A rear auxiliary input provides an additional connection path for portable audio sources when used with the appropriate adapter.
The R4500 has a built-in four-channel amplifier rated at 20 watts RMS per channel and 55 watts peak per channel at 4 ohms. Its 2-ohm-stable design supports expanded speaker configurations without requiring an external amplifier for every added speaker. Bass, midrange, treble, balance, loudness, and preset EQ controls allow the sound to be adjusted for the vessel and listening preference.
Three independently adjustable audio zones make the R4500 useful for systems that separate cockpit, cabin, tower, or other listening areas. Each zone has left, right, and subwoofer RCA outputs for connection to external amplifiers or powered subwoofers. The dedicated subwoofer outputs use an 80 Hz low-pass filter, and subwoofer level can be adjusted separately for each zone.
Designed for marine use, the R4500 combines a waterproof faceplate with USB, auxiliary, antenna, NMEA 2000, wired-remote, and multi-zone output connections. It is NMEA 2000 ready and works with compatible MIL-REM80 and INF-REM1 wired remotes. This makes it a flexible source-unit foundation for a new marine audio system or a multi-zone upgrade.
Key Features
- 4-Inch Color Display: Provides a clear full-color interface for source, radio, and playback information.
- Bluetooth 5.0 Streaming: Streams music wirelessly from compatible Bluetooth-enabled devices.
- AM/FM/Weather Band Tuner: Offers broadcast radio and weather-band reception onboard.
- Three-Zone RCA Outputs: Supports independent external amplification and subwoofer connections across three zones.
- 2-Ohm-Stable Amplifier: Helps the built-in four-channel amplifier support expanded speaker wiring.
- NMEA 2000 and Remote Ready: Integrates with compatible NMEA 2000 systems and select wired remotes.
Design & Installation
The R4500 uses a fixed, waterproof faceplate with a 4-inch color LCD screen, tactile buttons, and a rotary volume/select control. Its rear-panel layout separates power and speaker wiring from USB, auxiliary, antenna, NMEA 2000, remote, and multi-zone RCA connections. A soft silicone protective cover is available separately for additional protection.
Installation requires a rectangular dash opening, with the included mounting gasket used as a cutout template. Route the wire harness downward from the receiver to help reduce the chance of water entering the harness area, then connect speakers, power, antenna, and optional external amplifiers as needed. For multi-zone systems, use the labeled Zone 1, Zone 2, and Zone 3 RCA outputs and set individual zone and subwoofer levels through the receiver menu.
