The Arturia KeyStep Pro is a 37-key MIDI controller and hardware-focused sequencing keyboard designed to coordinate software instruments, MIDI devices, and modular or analog gear from one desktop unit. It combines playable slim keys with a multi-track step sequencer, arpeggiator, and performance controls. This makes it a practical control center for musicians who want hands-on composition and synchronized playback without relying exclusively on a computer screen.

Its velocity- and aftertouch-sensitive keyboard provides expressive control for playing melodies, chords, bass lines, and external sound modules. LEDs above the keys provide visual feedback, while the OLED display and dedicated controls keep pattern and project functions accessible. The compact layout is suited to desktop studios, live electronic rigs, and hybrid hardware/software setups.

KeyStep Pro supports four sequencer tracks with up to 64 steps per sequence and up to 16 notes of polyphony per step. Melodic sequences can be recorded in real time, entered step by step, or edited after recording. Per-note pitch, velocity, gate length, time shift, and probability settings support detailed pattern programming.

For rhythm programming, the onboard drum sequencer offers 24 parts, polyrhythm capability, and eight dedicated drum gate outputs. Its arpeggiator includes seven modes across a five-octave range, while Chord Mode and scale quantization help create harmonic parts quickly. Pattern randomization, a looper, and quantized or unquantized recording extend its performance-oriented workflow.

KeyStep Pro is built to connect across MIDI, USB, clock, and control-voltage environments. Four sets of CV, Gate, and Mod outputs can address compatible analog voices, while MIDI In, two MIDI Outs, USB, clock connections, sustain input, and a metronome output support a broad range of studio routing options. It can serve as a central sequencer in a Eurorack system, a controller for desktop synthesizers, or a MIDI front end for DAW instruments.

Key Features

  • 37 Expressive Slim Keys: Velocity and aftertouch sensitivity add playable control to MIDI and sequenced parts.
  • Four-Track Sequencing: Create patterns up to 64 steps with up to 16-note polyphony per step.
  • 24-Part Drum Sequencer: Program rhythmic parts with polyrhythm support and dedicated drum gates.
  • CV, Gate, And Mod Outputs: Connect compatible analog and modular instruments directly from four voice output groups.
  • Performance Arpeggiator: Seven arpeggiator modes and a five-octave range provide fast musical variation.
  • Comprehensive MIDI Routing: MIDI In, dual MIDI Out, USB, and clock connections integrate hardware and software.

Design & Installation

The KeyStep Pro uses a compact desktop-oriented control surface with 37 slim keys, LEDs above each key, 16 step buttons, five encoders, and an OLED display. Its layout separates sequencing, transport, project, and performance functions for direct access during writing or playback. A Kensington lock slot is included for physical security where needed.

Place the controller on a stable desktop or keyboard stand and connect it to a computer by USB, to MIDI devices through its MIDI ports, or to compatible analog equipment through the CV, Gate, Mod, and drum gate jacks. Use the included 12V DC power supply when required, particularly for firmware updates, and connect a sustain pedal or metronome output as appropriate for the setup. Confirm CV pitch, gate, and clock standards on connected analog equipment before configuring outputs.
