The Roland AE-30 Aerophone Pro is a professional digital wind instrument designed for players who want familiar wind-instrument technique with a broad selection of acoustic and synthesized sounds. It gives saxophone, clarinet, flute, recorder, and brass-style players a flexible alternative for practice, performance, composition, and MIDI-based music production. Its electronic sound engine allows one instrument to cover many musical roles without changing physical instruments.

Responsive breath and bite sensors translate playing dynamics and articulation into sound, while performance keys and octave controls support expressive technique. The saxophone-compatible layout includes a high F# key, and multiple fingering modes help players adapt the instrument to their preferred approach. A motion sensor and configurable hand controls add further performance-control options.

The AE-30 combines ZEN-Core synthesis with SuperNATURAL acoustic sound technology. Its preset scene library includes more than 300 sounds spanning acoustic winds, brass, world instruments, electronic textures, and synth voices. Built-in multi-effects, chorus, delay, and reverb provide sound-shaping tools without requiring an external processor.

For solo use, the Aerophone Pro includes a stereo speaker system and a headphones output for private practice. Intelligent Harmony can generate harmonies according to a selected key and scale, while Scale Tune supports temperament adjustment and custom note tuning. Scene memories, favorites, onboard editing, and the Aerophone Pro Editor app make it practical to organize sounds for different songs and playing situations.

The AE-30 fits equally well into a stage rig, a home practice setup, or a computer-based production system. Bluetooth audio and MIDI, USB audio/MIDI, traditional MIDI ports, and stereo analog output provide multiple connection paths. It can operate from the included AC adaptor or six separately sold Ni-MH AA batteries, allowing portable use away from mains power.

Design & Installation

The AE-30 has a streamlined black-mica body with an aluminum-silver top panel, ergonomic controls, and a 128 x 32-dot graphic OLED display. Its physical interface includes performance keys, four octave keys, a thumb lever, thumb pad, S1/S2 buttons, scene controls, transpose control, and a motion sensor. Roland includes a dedicated hand carry bag, mouthpiece cap, moisture band, water basin, and two thumb hook covers.

No permanent installation is required. Connect headphones through the stereo miniature PHONES jack, route sound to an external system from the stereo 1/4-inch OUTPUT jack, or connect MIDI and USB Type-C devices as needed. Use the supplied AC adaptor for stationary setups, or install six Ni-MH AA batteries for portable operation; carbon-zinc and alkaline batteries are not supported.
