The Roland FR-1X-BK is a compact digital V-Accordion with a piano-style right-hand keyboard, bass buttons, integrated speakers, and black finish. It gives accordion players an electronically generated instrument that can be played without relying solely on acoustic reeds. Its onboard amplification and battery-capable operation make it suitable for practice, lessons, travel, and small performance settings.

This piano-type model is designed for players who prefer familiar accordion-style piano keys on the treble side. It provides 26 velocity-sensitive keys and 72 velocity-sensitive bass buttons for expressive control. Standard bass/chord and Free Bass modes support different playing approaches and musical repertoires.

The FR-1X-BK uses a pressure-sensitive bellows system with Advanced Physical Behaviour Modelling to respond to bellows movement and direction. A bellows resistance regulator and selectable bellows curves let players adjust the playing response. This helps create a more controlled dynamic relationship between bellows technique and sound level.

Its internal sound engine supplies 16 Accordion Sets, orchestral voices, organ voices, orchestral bass and chord sounds, and orchestral Free Bass sounds. The instrument offers up to 128-note polyphony for layered and sustained performance passages. Built-in 9 cm speakers in a bass-reflex enclosure provide 7 watts per channel for self-contained listening.

USB connectivity extends the FR-1X-BK beyond its internal sounds by supporting USB-memory audio playback, data backup, and sound expansion loading. Dedicated outputs, a headphone jack, MIDI Out, and USB Computer connection allow it to work with external amplification, headphones, MIDI equipment, and a computer. It can serve as a portable standalone accordion or as part of a larger amplified or MIDI-based performance setup.

Design & Installation

The FR-1X-BK has a compact black V-Accordion format with a piano-style treble keyboard, velocity-sensitive bass buttons, integrated speakers, and a three-character 7-segment LED display. Its bass-reflex speaker enclosure is built into the instrument for direct onboard monitoring. The piano-type unit measures 405 mm high, 365 mm wide, and 195 mm deep, excluding straps and batteries from the listed weight.

For portable use, power the instrument with the included AC adaptor or eight AA rechargeable Ni-MH batteries, which are sold separately. Connect headphones to the 1/4-inch Phones jack for private practice, or connect the L/Mono and R/Mono outputs to an external amplifier or PA system. A USB memory device can be used for compatible MP3/WAV playback, sound expansion, and data transfer, while MIDI Out supports connection to compatible MIDI equipment.
