The Zoom Q8n-4K is a compact handy video recorder built for creators who need video capture and flexible audio recording in one device. It combines 4K video with up to four simultaneous audio channels, helping musicians, podcasters, filmmakers, and streamers avoid relying on a phone’s built-in microphone. Its included X/Y microphone capsule and dual XLR inputs support both ambient sound and direct external sources.

This recorder is suited to live performances, interviews, studio sessions, rehearsal videos, and mobile content production. The 150-degree F2.8 wide-angle lens captures a broad scene, while selectable field-of-view, scene, and brightness settings adapt the image for different environments. A flip-out color LCD supports self-recording and on-camera monitoring.

Audio is a central part of the Q8n-4K design. The included XYQ-8 capsule records stereo sound, while Inputs 1 and 2 accept XLR microphones, instruments, or mixer feeds. Phantom power, a switchable -20 dB pad, low-cut filtering, and selectable audio processing help match the recorder to a range of sound sources.

Video is recorded in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 MOV format at up to 4K resolution and 30 fps. The recorder also supports 1080p recording up to 60 fps and 720p recording up to 60 fps. WAV audio can be recorded at up to 96 kHz/24-bit, with separate channel files available in MOV+WAV and WAV multi-track modes.

For livestreaming and desktop setups, the Q8n-4K can operate as a USB webcam, USB microphone, or card reader. It also includes micro HDMI output for connection to a compatible TV or monitor, plus remote-control support through the Q8n Control app when an optional BTA-1 Bluetooth adapter is installed. The interchangeable Zoom capsule system provides an upgrade path for users who later need shotgun, mid-side, ambisonic, or additional-input options.

Design & Installation

The Q8n-4K combines a folding microphone arm, integrated controls, a 2.0-inch full-color LCD, and a compact recorder body designed for portable capture. Its included XYQ-8 capsule uses a 120-degree X/Y stereo microphone arrangement, and the display flips out for front-facing operation. A standard tripod mounting thread on the bottom allows use with a compatible tripod or mounting accessory.

Insert a compatible microSD, microSDHC, or microSDXC card before recording, then choose the needed resolution, frame rate, audio format, and recording mode. Connect external microphones, instruments, or a mixer to the two XLR inputs as needed, using the pad or selectable phantom power where appropriate. For computer streaming, connect the USB Type-C port with a data-capable USB cable and select webcam, USB mic, or card-reader mode.
