The Rockford Fosgate Power T2S2-16 is a 16-inch, single-voice-coil car subwoofer with a 2-ohm nominal impedance. It is designed for systems that need substantial low-frequency output from one large driver. With 2,500 watts RMS power handling, it requires a properly matched high-power amplifier and enclosure.

This subwoofer is intended for enthusiasts building a serious bass upgrade rather than a compact factory-replacement installation. Its large radiating area and long 34 mm Xmax are suited to reproducing demanding low bass with controlled cone travel. The 2-ohm single-coil configuration provides a straightforward load for an amplifier rated to operate at 2 ohms.

The T2S2-16 uses a three-layer cone made from glass fiber, aramid honeycomb, and glass fiber, paired with an aluminum dustcap. Its injection-molded foam surround uses Rockford Fosgate's Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) to increase effective cone area. A dual Nomex progressive spider assembly helps support the moving components during high-excursion operation.

Its motor and cooling hardware are built for high-power use, including a triple-stack segmented ferrite motor, vented pole piece, and integrated aluminum heat-sinking shorting ring. The 4-inch edge-wound aluminum voice coil and die-cast aluminum frame are part of the driver's heavy-duty construction. Power handling is rated in accordance with the CEA-2031 standard.

Installation space should be planned carefully: the driver has a 15.04-inch mounting cutout requirement and a 10.47-inch mounting depth. Rockford Fosgate provides sealed and vented enclosure recommendations, with the vented design aimed at higher output. This model works best as the bass foundation of a dedicated amplified car-audio system with appropriate electrical capacity, enclosure construction, and crossover setup.

Design & Installation

The T2S2-16 combines a glass fiber/aramid honeycomb/glass fiber cone, aluminum dustcap, injection-molded foam surround, dual Nomex progressive spiders, and an aluminum die-cast frame. Its triple-stack ferrite motor, vented pole piece, and integrated heat-sinking shorting ring support thermal management during demanding use. A detachable die-cast aluminum trim ring is included.

Confirm that the enclosure can accommodate the 17.79-inch overall diameter, 15.04-inch cutout, and 10.47-inch mounting depth before installation. The spring terminals accept 8 AWG speaker wire, and the driver should be paired with an amplifier that is appropriate for a 2-ohm load and its 2,500-watt RMS rating. For vented applications, Rockford Fosgate recommends using a subsonic or infrasonic filter; an active 80-100 Hz low-pass crossover at 12 dB/octave is also recommended.
