The Rockford Fosgate P500-12P is a self-contained powered subwoofer system designed to add low-frequency output without separately selecting a subwoofer, enclosure, and amplifier. It combines one 12-inch woofer, a ported enclosure, and a built-in 500-watt RMS Class-D amplifier. This format is intended for drivers who want a consolidated bass upgrade for a hatchback, sedan, or SUV.

The system uses a vented enclosure and slot port to support lower-frequency bass reproduction. Its 12-inch woofer is optimized for the integrated amplifier, eliminating the need to match an external amplifier to the installed driver. A variable low-pass crossover, bass boost, and phase control allow the output to be adjusted to better blend with the vehicle's full-range speakers.

The P500-12P can work with factory or aftermarket audio systems. High-level speaker inputs support connection to factory radio speaker wiring, while low-level RCA inputs support aftermarket receivers with preamp outputs. An auto turn-on selector supports remote-trigger, DC-offset-sense, and audio-sense activation methods.

A wired Punch Level Control is included for making bass-level adjustments from the listening position. The integrated amplifier provides 500 watts RMS, while the enclosure's 20 Hz to 200 Hz frequency-response specification covers the sub-bass and bass range. A 0° to 180° phase control helps with integration when the subwoofer location or vehicle acoustics affect bass response.

The enclosure is built from 5/8-inch MDF and finished in heat-activated vinyl. Quick-disconnect power and input connections make it more practical to remove when cargo space is needed. It is a suitable upgrade path for systems that need dedicated bass while retaining the existing radio or adding an aftermarket head unit later.

Design & Installation

The P500-12P uses a precision-constructed 5/8-inch MDF wedge enclosure with a ported design and heat-activated vinyl finish. Its integrated amplifier uses an extruded-aluminum heatsink with convection cooling, while Power and Protect LEDs provide operating-status indication. Thermal and over/under-voltage protection are included.

Confirm the available cargo-area space before installation, using the 15.00-inch height, 24.76-inch width, 10.91-inch deep side, and 7.71-inch shallow side dimensions. Connect the enclosure through either its high-level or RCA low-level input option, then run the required vehicle power and ground wiring using 8 AWG conductors. Set the crossover, bass boost, phase, and remote level conservatively during initial setup, then fine-tune them to complement the main speakers.
