Audison AV 12 D4 II 12" Dual 4-Ohm Subwoofer

The Audison AV 12 D4 II is a 300 mm (12-inch) dual-voice-coil subwoofer designed for high-performance car audio systems. It adds low-frequency extension where factory speakers or smaller subwoofers cannot provide sufficient bass depth. Its dual 4-ohm voice coil configuration gives installers useful wiring flexibility when matching the subwoofer to a compatible amplifier.

Built for controlled bass reproduction, the AV 12 D4 II is intended for listeners who want a detailed low end without requiring an oversized enclosure. It is optimized for sealed-box use and is suited to installations where available cargo or cabin space is limited. Audison rates it for 550 watts continuous power handling and 1100 watts peak power handling.

A 38.6 mm (1.5-inch) CCAW voice coil combines copper-clad aluminum wire construction with a glass-fiber former. The motor structure uses a ferrite magnet and Airflow Venting Cooling technology to help manage heat during sustained operation. This design supports consistent performance when the subwoofer is driven by an appropriately matched amplifier.

The polypropylene cone uses an extended-profile dust cap and Radial Reinforcement Framework to improve structural stability during excursion. Audison also uses FEM optimization in the magnetic circuit and dust-cap design to support cone rigidity and damping. The result is a subwoofer engineered for clean, controlled bass across its 25 to 400 Hz rated frequency response.

The AV 12 D4 II fits naturally into a VOCE II-based upgrade or a custom active system using a dedicated subwoofer amplifier. Its 4+4-ohm configuration can be wired in series or parallel according to the amplifier's approved impedance range. A protective metal mesh grille is included for installations where the cone may be exposed.

Design & Installation

The AV 12 D4 II uses a die-cast aluminum chassis, ferrite magnetic assembly, polypropylene cone, nitrile-rubber surround, and glass-fiber voice-coil former. Its basket incorporates a magnet cover and dual cable-routing hooks, while spring-loaded horizontal terminals accept up to 8 AWG cable. A black metal mesh grille and mounting screws are included to protect the driver in exposed installations.

Plan the enclosure and amplifier together before installation. Audison publishes sealed and reflex enclosure designs, including a 21 L compact sealed alignment with a 284 mm mounting hole; verify mounting depth, clearance, and final internal air volume in the vehicle. Use an amplifier stable at the final impedance created by the selected series or parallel voice-coil wiring, and apply the published crossover guidance as a starting point for system tuning.
