The Rockford Fosgate M1D2-8 is an 8-inch marine subwoofer designed to add low-frequency output to boats and powersports audio systems while providing integrated RGB lighting. Its dual 2-ohm voice coil design and built-in VersaSwitch allow the final load to be selected as 1 ohm or 4 ohms without extra series or parallel wiring. Color Optix RGB lighting gives the M1D2-8 a coordinated appearance when used with compatible Rockford Fosgate lighting equipment. A separately sold PMX-RGB Color Optix controller and the RF Connect app are required to control lighting patterns. Integrated Deutsch and Amphenol connections help simplify the lighting connection within a compatible Color Optix setup.

The M1D2-8 uses a mineral-filled polypropylene cone with a Santoprene VAST surround and a 1.5-inch Kapton voice coil former. Its vented motor includes a water-repelling nano-coated mesh screen, while fully insulated silicone tinsel leads are designed for demanding outdoor use. The VAST surround design increases effective cone area without enlarging the speaker frame.

Design & Installation

The M1D2-8 combines a UV-stable ASA plastic frame and grille with a mineral-filled polypropylene cone, Santoprene surround, synthetic-fiber-blend spiders, and marine-grade brass terminals with zinc-nickel plating. Its motor is vented and protected by a water-repelling nano-coated mesh screen. The optically clear RGB lighting encapsulation is designed to remain suitable for exposed marine installations.

Plan for a 7.10-inch mounting cutout, 3.43 inches of mounting depth, and a 9-inch overall diameter. Use the VersaSwitch to choose the 1-ohm or 4-ohm configuration appropriate for the connected amplifier, following the amplifier manufacturer's minimum-impedance guidance.
