Audison APS 8 D Prima 8" Dual 4-Ohm Shallow Subwoofer

The Audison APS 8 D is an 8-inch passive car subwoofer designed for installations where bass reinforcement is needed but enclosure depth and available space are limited. Its dual 4-ohm voice coils provide flexible wiring options for compatible amplifiers. It is intended for use in a compact sealed enclosure rather than as a free-air or loaded-box replacement.

With 250 watts continuous power handling and 500 watts peak power handling, the APS 8 D is suited to systems that need controlled low-frequency support without requiring a large subwoofer cabinet. Its 83.5 dB sensitivity and compact-driver format make correct amplifier matching and enclosure design especially important. The driver is designed around sealed-box use beginning at 7.5 liters.

A 79 mm mounting depth helps the APS 8 D fit locations where a conventional full-depth subwoofer may not clear the rear wall of the enclosure or available vehicle structure. Audison uses a cone, dustcap, and basket geometry intended to retain useful linear excursion in this shallow format. The specified linear excursion is ±8.8 mm.

The water-repellent pressed-paper cone is paired with a high-density flux ferrite motor assembly for low-frequency reproduction in vehicle environments. Basket vents beneath the spider support cooling without a central pole vent. This design also allows the driver to be mounted closer to the rear wall of a properly built enclosure.

The APS 8 D is a practical choice for custom OEM-integration upgrades, compact hatchback or trunk installations, and systems using an external subwoofer amplifier. Its dual-coil configuration can be wired for a 2-ohm or 8-ohm final load when both coils are used, provided the amplifier is rated for that load. A steel mesh grille and plastic gasket are included for installation and driver protection.

Design & Installation

The APS 8 D uses a high-density flux ferrite magnet, water-repellent pressed-paper cone, and a 40 mm voice-coil assembly. Its basket incorporates air vents beneath the spider rather than a central pole vent, and the surround and spider are designed to help control unwanted rocking motion. The included steel mesh grille provides physical protection, while the plastic gasket helps finish the mounting surface.

Install the APS 8 D in a sealed enclosure with at least 7.5 liters of internal volume; Audison documents an 8.5-liter, Qtc 0.85 sealed design as a suggested enclosure alignment. Confirm the 187 mm mounting cutout, 79 mm mounting depth, and rear clearance before building or modifying an enclosure. Wire the two 4-ohm voice coils in series for an 8-ohm load or in parallel for a 2-ohm load only when the amplifier is stable at the resulting impedance.
