Audison APBX8AS2 8" Active Subwoofer

The Audison APBX8AS2 is a compact 8-inch active subwoofer enclosure designed to add controlled low-frequency output without requiring a separate external subwoofer amplifier. Its sealed enclosure and integrated amplifier make it suitable for vehicles where cargo-space efficiency and straightforward system integration matter. It is intended for listeners upgrading factory or aftermarket audio systems that need more bass presence and impact.

An integrated 250-watt RMS amplifier powers the included 8-inch subwoofer driver at an ultra-low 0.4-ohm load. The enclosure uses Audison He-Li high-efficiency/low-impedance amplification technology without a switching power supply. Dynamic Bass Tracking monitors input peaks to help manage the system when it is driven near maximum output.

The APBX8AS2 provides tuning controls for matching the subwoofer to the vehicle and main speakers. Its adjustable 12 dB/octave Butterworth low-pass filter covers 50 to 300 Hz and can be bypassed when a DSP or source unit provides dedicated subwoofer filtering. Bass boost, gain adjustment, and a 0/180-degree phase switch give the installer practical setup flexibility.

Both RCA low-level and high-level speaker inputs are provided, allowing use with aftermarket receivers or many factory audio systems. Left and right input channels are summed internally to mono for subwoofer playback. The selectable ART automatic turn-on function supports remote-in, DC-offset, or audio-signal activation methods.

The sealed, low-profile enclosure can be installed up-firing or down-firing through Audison's 2S² layout concept. Down-firing leveling feet with Velcro inserts help secure the enclosure to carpeted cargo areas while retaining easy removability. An included HRC AP wired remote provides subwoofer-level adjustment from the front of the vehicle.

Design & Installation

The APBX8AS2 combines an 8-inch driver, integrated amplifier, and sealed enclosure in a 6.22-inch-tall package. Its driver uses a water-repellent pressed-paper cone, high-density-flux ferrite magnet, and 40 mm voice coil. Rounded enclosure corners are designed to reinforce the cabinet and reduce enclosure resonances, while the included metal grille protects the driver.

Install the enclosure in a secure cargo-area location with clearance for its wiring and controls. Use RCA inputs with a preamplified source output, or connect the supplied high-level input connector to compatible speaker outputs; the unit also requires battery positive, ground, and optionally remote-turn-on wiring. Set the gain, crossover, phase, bass boost, and turn-on mode during final system tuning, and use the included feet when mounting down-firing on carpet.
