The Gretsch G5422TG is a right-handed, double-cut hollowbody electric guitar built for players seeking classic Gretsch-style response with practical modern appointments. Its laminated maple construction and hollow body design provide an acoustic-like resonance while retaining the amplified character expected from an electric guitar. The Snowcrest White finish is paired with gold hardware and a gold plexi pickguard for a distinctive stage-ready presentation.

This model is well suited to guitarists who want clear chord voicings, articulate single-note work, and the flexibility of two humbucking pickups. The double-cut body gives access to the upper frets, while the Classic C maple neck and 12-inch-radius laurel fingerboard provide a familiar playing platform. It is a six-string instrument with 22 medium-jumbo frets and a 24.6-inch scale length.

Two FT-5E Filter'Tron pickups deliver the guitar's amplified voice, with separate neck and bridge pickup volume controls, a master volume, and a master tone control. A three-position toggle selects the bridge pickup, both pickups together, or the neck pickup. The master-volume circuit includes treble bleed to help retain high-frequency detail as the master volume is reduced.

The hollow laminated maple body uses trestle block bracing, which adds rigidity between the top and back. This construction is designed to help reduce unwanted feedback while supporting a more focused attack and sustain than an unbraced hollowbody design. Arched laminated maple top and back sections, oversized bound F-holes, and multi-ply body binding complete its traditional hollowbody format.

A secured Adjusto-Matic bridge with a laurel base works with the Bigsby B60 vibrato tailpiece for pitch modulation effects. Vintage-style open-back tuning machines, a Graph Tech NuBone nut, and nickel-plated steel .011-.049 strings round out the factory hardware specification. It can serve as a standalone electric guitar for an existing guitar amplifier and pedal setup, while optional Gretsch gig bag and hardshell case choices are listed by the manufacturer.

Key Features

  • FT-5E Filter'Tron Pickups: Two humbucking pickups provide selectable neck, bridge, or combined voices.
  • Trestle Block Bracing: Reinforces the hollow body to help control unwanted feedback.
  • Bigsby B60 Vibrato: Enables expressive pitch modulation from the tailpiece.
  • Secured Adjusto-Matic Bridge: Provides an adjustable bridge paired with a laurel base.
  • Classic C Maple Neck: Offers a traditional neck profile with a gloss finish.
  • Master Volume With Treble Bleed: Helps preserve clarity when reducing overall volume.

Design & Installation

The G5422TG uses an arched laminated maple top and back, a 2.25-inch-deep laminated maple body, and white binding with black-and-white purfling. Its maple set-neck construction, laurel fingerboard, pearloid Hump Block inlays, white-bound headstock, gold hardware, and Snowcrest White gloss body finish create a cohesive classic hollowbody design. Gretsch specifies gold G-Arrow control knobs, a gold plexi pickguard, and Gretsch knurled strap retainer knobs.

Set up the instrument with the factory-specified nickel-plated steel .011-.049 strings or have a qualified guitar technician adjust the setup when changing string gauge. Use the three-position pickup toggle along with individual pickup volumes, master volume, and master tone to shape the output before it reaches a compatible guitar amplifier or effects chain. For transport, Gretsch lists the G2162 optional gig bag and G6241FT optional hardshell case for this hollowbody format.
