The Gretsch G2420 Streamliner is a right-handed, single-cut hollowbody electric guitar built for players seeking an archtop-style instrument with flexible amplified tones. Its fully hollow laminated maple body provides an acoustic-like sense of resonance while the two humbucking pickups support use with a guitar amplifier. The Claret Burst finish, pearloid thumbnail inlays, and nickel hardware give it a classic Gretsch-inspired presentation.

This model is a practical choice for guitarists who want a full-size hollowbody format for chord work, melodic lines, rehearsal, recording, or stage performance. The 24.75-inch scale length and soft C-shaped nato neck create a familiar fretting feel, while the 12-inch-radius laurel fingerboard offers a relatively flat playing surface. Twenty-two medium-jumbo frets provide room for contemporary lead and rhythm techniques.

Two Broad'Tron BT-3S humbucking pickups supply the G2420's amplified voice. Gretsch specifies a magnet combination of Alnico 5 and Alnico 2 for these pickups, with stronger mids, full low end, and clear highs. Individual pickup volume controls, master tone, and master volume controls allow the player to refine pickup balance and overall output.

A push/pull function on the master-volume control splits the pickup coils for an alternate single-coil-style setting. The three-position toggle selects bridge pickup, both pickups together, or neck pickup. This gives players access to several foundational pickup combinations without adding external electronics.

The G2420 uses an Adjusto-Matic bridge with a secured laurel base and a fixed Chromatic II tailpiece. Parallel tone bars brace the hollow laminated-maple body, while sealed die-cast tuners support routine tuning adjustments. It is supplied with .010-.046 nickel-plated steel strings and can be paired with an appropriate guitar amplifier, instrument cable, and optional protective case or gig bag.

Key Features

  • Fully Hollow Maple Body: Arched laminated maple construction delivers resonance and a traditional hollowbody response.
  • Broad'Tron BT-3S Pickups: Dual humbuckers provide selectable neck, bridge, and combined pickup tones.
  • Push/Pull Coil Split: The master-volume control adds an alternate coil-split pickup setting.
  • Soft C Nato Neck: The set nato neck has a rounded profile for conventional fretting comfort.
  • Adjusto-Matic Bridge: The bridge uses a secured laurel base and works with the fixed tailpiece.
  • Chromatic II Tailpiece: Fixed string anchoring complements the guitar's classic hollowbody layout.

Design & Installation

The G2420 combines a gloss-finished, arched laminated-maple body with aged-white binding and black/white/black purfling. Its laurel fingerboard carries pearloid Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays, and the body is fitted with a three-ply tortoise pickguard bearing a gold Gretsch logo. Nickel-finished hardware includes sealed die-cast tuning machines, radio control knobs, and a nickel switch tip.

This is a full hollowbody electric guitar rather than a vehicle-audio component, so it does not use DIN mounting, speaker wiring, or head-unit connections. For amplified use, connect the guitar to a suitable guitar amplifier with an instrument cable, then use the three-position pickup switch, individual pickup volumes, master tone, and master volume to set the desired sound. Optional protection options specified for this model include the G2420T Streamliner hardshell case and G2162 Hollow Body gig bag.
