The BOSS KTN-50 3 Katana-50 Gen 3 is a 50-watt 1x12 guitar combo amplifier designed for practice, recording, rehearsal, and stage use. It combines a custom 12-inch speaker with a compact cabinet format, giving players a self-contained amplifier without requiring a separate speaker cabinet. The onboard controls provide direct access to amp voicings, EQ, effects, master volume, and output-level management.

This amplifier suits electric guitarists who want a broad range of clean, pushed, crunch, lead, and high-gain sounds from one combo. Six amp characters with selectable variations provide 12 available amp voices, including the Gen 3 Pushed character. An Acoustic setting also supports use with an acoustic guitar.

BOSS Tube Logic architecture and reactive Class AB power amplification shape the Katana-50 Gen 3 playing response. The Power Control switch offers Standby, 0.5 W, Half, and Max settings, allowing output level adjustment for different environments. This makes it practical to use the same amp at home, in rehearsal spaces, or onstage.

Five simultaneous effect sections provide Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb processing. Each section has front-panel controls, while BOSS Tone Studio expands editing with additional effect types and deeper parameters. Four Tone Setting memories store complete amp and effect setups for quick recall.

The Katana-50 Gen 3 can also serve as part of a larger guitar setup. Its Power Amp In accepts an external preamp, modeler, or multi-effects unit directly into the power section, while the USB-C port supports computer recording and editing. A stereo headphones output enables private practice, and an optional BT-DUAL adaptor adds Bluetooth audio and mobile-device editing capability.

Design & Installation

The Katana-50 Gen 3 is a compact 1x12 combo with an integrated handle and rubber feet included in its published dimensions. Its front panel places amplifier, equalizer, effects, memory, master, and Power Control functions within reach. The custom 12-inch speaker is built into the combo cabinet, so no external speaker connection is needed for normal operation.

Connect an electric guitar to the 1/4-inch INPUT jack and use the front-panel controls to shape the sound. For silent practice, connect stereo headphones; inserting a headphone plug mutes the amp speaker. A compatible BOSS footswitch can switch CH1/CH2 and Solo functions, while an optional expression pedal controls volume.
