BOSS IR-200 Amp & IR Cabinet Pedal

The BOSS IR-200 is a pedal-based amp simulator and impulse response cabinet loader for guitar and bass. It provides a direct-performance solution for players who want amplifier and speaker-cabinet tones without relying on a traditional mic'd amplifier setup. Use it for live rigs, home practice, recording, and pedalboards that need consistent output options.

Eight guitar amp types and three bass amp types provide a range of clean, driven, and high-gain starting points. Dedicated gain, level, bass, middle, and treble controls make primary tone adjustments accessible from the top panel. A built-in noise suppressor helps manage unwanted noise in higher-gain setups.

The IR-200 includes 154 preset cabinet impulse responses, comprising 144 BOSS IRs and 10 Celestion Digital IRs. It also provides 128 user IR slots for loading compatible mono or stereo WAV cabinet files. Two custom DSPs support detailed IR playback, including files up to 500 ms long.

Flexible signal routing helps the IR-200 work with a broad range of pedalboard layouts. Two cabinet IRs can run at once for blended or stereo sounds, while the effects loop supports mono send and mono or stereo return operation. The loop can be positioned before the cabinet section or after the EQ section.

For system integration, the IR-200 offers dual 1/4-inch outputs, a headphones output, stereo aux input, USB audio, MIDI, and external control connections. Store complete setups in 128 memories for fast recall during rehearsals, sessions, and performances. It can serve as a central direct-output stage in a compact guitar or bass rig.

Design & Installation

The IR-200 uses a compact pedal-format chassis with a backlit 132 x 32-dot graphic LCD, dedicated tone controls, and two onboard footswitches. Its top-panel controls provide direct access to amp, cabinet, ambience, gain, level, and EQ adjustments. Four rubber feet are included for optional installation and surface protection.

Connect an instrument to the INPUT jack, then route the A/MONO and B outputs to a PA system, recording interface, amplifier, or powered monitor as appropriate. The SEND and RETURN connections allow external effects to be inserted into the signal chain, while the PHONES jack supports private monitoring and the AUX IN accepts stereo backing audio. An included AC adaptor powers the unit; optional external footswitches, expression pedals, and TRS MIDI cables can expand control.
