BOSS GA-FC EX Guitar Amp Foot Controller

The BOSS GA-FC EX is a floor foot controller designed for BOSS and Roland amplifiers equipped with a GA-FC connection. It puts compatible amp functions within foot reach, allowing players to change channels and switch effects without leaving the instrument. This is a practical control expansion for guitarists and bassists who want hands-free operation onstage or in a rehearsal setup.

Six heavy-duty footswitches provide direct access to assigned amplifier functions, while two-color LEDs show the current control status at a glance. The controller is intended to make transitions between saved amp settings and effects more manageable during a performance. Its operation is determined by the connected amplifier, so available functions can vary by model.

The GA-FC EX extends the standard GA-FC format with a rear-panel mode selector and additional control possibilities. Its dedicated expression-pedal connections support foot control of volume and other compatible amp parameters when approved expression pedals are added. The unit itself is a control accessory and connects to the amplifier with the included 1/4-inch TRS foot controller cable.

For supported Katana Gen 3 and Katana MkII amplifiers, the GA-FC EX can be used in EXPAND mode with a second GA-FC EX or standard GA-FC. It can also operate two supported amplifiers through FOOT CONTROL 2 mode, or support a third expression pedal through EXP PEDAL 3 mode. These expanded functions are available only with amplifier models that specifically support the GA-FC EX.

The rugged metal chassis is suited to repeated floor use in home, practice, studio, and live-performance systems. It does not require a separate power supply when connected to a compatible amplifier with the supplied TRS cable. For players building a more complete amp-control rig, it can be paired with compatible BOSS or Roland expression pedals and an FS-5U footswitch.

Design & Installation

The GA-FC EX uses a rugged metal chassis with six heavy-duty footswitches arranged in a compact, low-profile floor format. Its indicator section includes channel, panel, function, and control-status displays, and the rear panel houses the expression, mode, and foot-control connections. The controller measures 392 mm wide, 81 mm deep, and 49 mm high.

Place the controller on a stable floor surface within reach of the amplifier, then connect its included foot controller cable to the amp's GA-FC jack using a stereo 1/4-inch TRS connection. Check the owner's manual for the connected amplifier to confirm available switch assignments and GA-FC EX mode support. Optional FV-500L, FV-500H, or Roland EV-5 expression pedals and an FS-5U footswitch can be connected as supported by the amplifier and selected mode.
