The Arturia KeyStep 37 mk2 is a compact MIDI controller and hardware sequencer designed to bring keyboard performance, pattern creation, and external instrument control into one device. Its 37-note Slimkey keyboard gives players additional range without taking up the space of a full-size controller. It is suited to producers, keyboardists, and modular users who want a hands-on centerpiece for software and hardware instruments.

KeyStep 37 mk2 does not generate sound on its own; instead, it sends performance, sequence, clock, and control data to connected instruments. Velocity and aftertouch give the keyboard more expressive response, while capacitive pitch and modulation touch strips provide immediate performance control. RGB key feedback and an OLED display help make active notes, settings, and editing states easier to follow.

Its polyphonic sequencer stores up to 64 patterns across four banks, with patterns up to 64 steps long and as many as eight notes per step. A 16-mode arpeggiator, Chord mode, Scale mode, and Mutate, Spice, and Dice functions support fast idea development without relying on a computer. Arpeggios can also be converted into sequencer patterns for further editing and saving.

The controller is built for hybrid setups that combine a DAW, MIDI hardware, and analog or modular instruments. USB-C provides class-compliant MIDI and bus power, while full-size MIDI DIN input and output support traditional MIDI equipment. Pitch, Gate, Mod 1, and Mod 2 CV outputs extend control to compatible semi-modular and Eurorack systems.

Four encoders, a clickable encoder, dedicated transport controls, and four banks of assignable MIDI CC control provide practical access to performance and editing functions. The rear-panel pedal input accepts sustain footswitches or continuous expression pedals. With compact dimensions and included software, KeyStep 37 mk2 can serve as a portable composition tool, a desktop controller, or a sequencer for a larger electronic music system.

Design & Installation

KeyStep 37 mk2 uses a compact 550 x 147 x 35 mm controller format with a 37-note Slimkey layout, per-key RGB LED feedback, two capacitive touch strips, four encoders, and an OLED display with clickable encoder. A dedicated power switch and Kensington lock slot are included. The 3.5 lb controller is designed to fit easily into desktop, mobile, and live-performance setups.

Connect the included USB-A-to-USB-C cable to a computer, compatible tablet, or suitable USB power source for power and USB MIDI. Use standard MIDI cables for MIDI DIN devices, 3.5 mm TRS cables for Sync In and Out, and appropriate patch cables for compatible CV/Gate equipment. A TRS sustain or expression pedal may be connected to the pedal input, while Arturia MIDI Control Center can be used to manage settings, patterns, and firmware updates.
