The Arturia KeyLab Essential 88 mk3 is a full-size USB MIDI controller keyboard designed for computer-based music production, virtual instruments, and MIDI hardware. Its 88-note range gives players the complete piano layout needed for two-handed parts, bass lines, chords, and melodic performance. It provides hands-on control for creators who want to move beyond mouse-and-keyboard workflows.

Designed for beginning players, producers, songwriters, and performers, this controller combines a semi-weighted, velocity-sensitive keybed with practical DAW controls. The hybrid synth-piano feel supports expressive playing while remaining suitable for modern production tasks such as programming parts and recording MIDI. Pitch and modulation wheels add familiar real-time performance control.

KeyLab Essential 88 mk3 is built around tactile operation rather than audio generation; it controls compatible software instruments, DAWs, and external MIDI gear. Eight RGB pads can be used for notes, drum programming, clip launching, and other assignments, while faders and encoders provide direct access to mix and instrument parameters. A 2.5-inch LCD display and contextual buttons provide real-time feedback while navigating presets and controls.

Creative tools include Scale mode, Chord mode, a multi-mode arpeggiator, Hold, and semitone transpose. These functions help users build musical parts, remain within a selected scale, and create repeating patterns without complex programming. Split-point capability also supports assigning two sounds across different keyboard ranges when used with compatible software.

For studio integration, KeyLab Essential 88 mk3 offers dedicated integration with Analog Lab Pro and custom DAW scripts for Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, and Bitwig Studio. It also supports MCU/HUI control and up to six user presets for custom assignments. USB-C provides bus power and computer connectivity, while a 5-pin MIDI output extends control to compatible external instruments.

Design & Installation

The white KeyLab Essential 88 mk3 uses a full-length layout with an 88-note semi-weighted keyboard, nine 30 mm faders, rotary encoders, RGB pads, pitch and modulation wheels, and a central LCD interface. Its eco-designed construction incorporates recycled plastic, and Arturia specifies recycled packaging. The streamlined control layout keeps performance, DAW, and sound-navigation functions within reach.

Place the controller on a stable keyboard stand or desk with sufficient width for its 49.53-inch chassis, then connect it to a computer with the supplied USB-A to USB-C cable for power and MIDI control. Use Arturia Software Center to install and activate included software, then select the appropriate DAW integration script or MIDI preset. A separately purchased pedal can connect to the control input for sustain, expression, modulation, or footswitch operation, and the 5-pin MIDI output can connect to compatible external MIDI equipment.
