RØDE PODMICUSB Dynamic USB/XLR Broadcast Microphone

The RØDE PODMICUSB is a dynamic broadcast microphone designed for spoken-word recording, livestreaming, gaming, voice-over work, and content creation. It combines a traditional analog XLR output with a USB-C digital connection, allowing it to work in either a conventional audio setup or a direct-to-computer recording workflow. This flexibility helps creators start simply and expand into mixers or audio interfaces later.

Its end-address cardioid pickup pattern focuses on the speaker in front of the microphone while reducing pickup from the sides and rear. The dynamic capsule is intended for close-mic vocal use, making it well suited to desk-based podcast and streaming setups. For strongest voice capture, RØDE recommends positioning the microphone approximately 5 to 10 cm from the mouth.

When connected by USB, the PODMICUSB uses a built-in Revolution Preamp and onboard APHEX processing. RØDE Central provides access to input gain and sound-shaping tools including a high-pass filter, noise gate, compressor, Aural Exciter, and Big Bottom processing. Configured processing settings remain stored in the microphone for use with other compatible software and devices over USB.

The integrated 3.5 mm headphone output supports direct monitoring while recording through USB. Its onboard control adjusts headphone level, while a press of the control enables or disables zero-latency microphone monitoring. This gives solo creators a straightforward way to hear their voice without relying on a separate headphone interface.

The PODMICUSB is built around an all-metal body with an internal shock mount, internal pop filter, and included external pop filter. Its integrated swing mount lets the microphone be angled on a compatible stand or studio arm. Use USB-C for a compact computer or mobile setup, or use XLR with an audio interface, mixer, or other analog microphone input.

Design & Installation

The PODMICUSB has a black, all-metal broadcast-style enclosure with a high-power neodymium dynamic capsule. An internal shock mount reduces handling and vibration transfer, while internal and external pop filtering help control plosive sounds. The microphone includes an integrated swing mount for directional positioning and secure adjustment.

Mount the microphone to a stand or boom arm using its 5/8-inch or 3/8-inch threaded mount. Connect the supplied 3 m USB-C cable for direct recording to a compatible computer or mobile device, or connect a separately purchased XLR cable to an audio interface or mixer. Leave clearance at the rear for cabling, place the grille toward the speaker, and disengage phantom power when using the XLR output.
