The sE Electronics V KICK BLACK is a compact dynamic microphone designed for kick drums and other low-frequency instruments. Its low-profile body helps solve placement challenges inside or outside a bass drum, especially where space around pedals, ports, and stands is limited. It is suited to drummers, live-sound engineers, and recording users who need a dedicated XLR kick microphone.

The V KICK BLACK uses a supercardioid pickup pattern to focus on the intended source while helping reduce surrounding stage or kit bleed. Its custom DMC7 SB dynamic capsule is tuned for low and loud sources, including kick drums, floor toms, percussion, and bass guitar cabinets. The aluminum voice coil supports a transient-rich response with controlled low-frequency capture and balanced midrange detail.

Two recessed rear switches provide four selectable voicings. One switch changes the overall response between Classic and Modern, while the second changes the high-frequency character. This allows the microphone to be adapted for rounded traditional kick tones or a clearer, more contemporary attack without changing microphones.

An integrated swivel joint allows the microphone angle to be adjusted for close or more open placement. The parallel XLR connector and stand-mount layout helps keep the cable path compact when positioning the mic in a drum. Its internal capsule suspension is designed to reduce mechanical vibration and handling-related shock transfer.

The V KICK BLACK is built with an all-metal chassis, a die-cast zinc alloy housing, and a spring steel grille. A switchable internal windscreen helps reduce unwanted wind and popping effects, and a spare black windscreen is included. Connect it to a compatible microphone preamp, mixer, audio interface, or stage snake using a standard 3-pin XLR microphone cable.

Design & Installation

The V KICK BLACK combines a die-cast zinc alloy chassis with an all-metal housing and spring steel mesh grille. Its 60 mm diameter and 135 mm length keep the microphone compact for drum placement. The gold-plated 3-pin XLR connector and integrated internal suspension are designed for dependable signal connection and reduced mechanical vibration.

Mount the microphone to a compatible stand or boom using the included thread adapter, then connect a standard 3-pin XLR cable to a mixer, microphone preamp, stage box, or audio interface. The integrated swivel joint can be used to aim the capsule toward the beater impact area, resonant head, or port depending on the desired balance of attack and low-end resonance. Keep the microphone and cable clear of the drum head during setup.
